Basketball Play - Kansas Jayhawks - Horns 54

Kansas Jayhawks - Horns 54

Dave Nedbalek 11/09/2018

This is a great set that we have seen many NBA teams run, namely the Cleveland Cavaliers utilizing LeBron James as the screner. T he proximity to the rim and the pace with which Kansas runs it makes it even tougher for the defenders to talk their way through defending this action. I love that the Jayhawk bigs casually jog down before popping back up the lane lines quickly to start the defense out of step. On the FMS Blog: NCAA Preseason Top 25 XsOs - Teams 1-5 See More

Basketball Play - Duke Blue Devils - Flash Hold

Duke Blue Devils - Flash Hold

Dave Nedbalek 11/09/2018

This may not be the most innovative set, but it is the essence of good offense: get your best player the ball in spots where he/she can be effective. Duke will flash Reddish or Williamson to the elbow extended area and space off of him. They are trusting in their decision making, but also trusting that regardless of the defense knowing exactly what is coming they will find a way. The worst thing you can do to elite players is neutralize their skill by running them through aimless sets. As quickly as possible, get your best player the ball in their spot. For those of us that don't have 5 lottery picks on our roster, I added a wrinkle to the last frame that might serve you well with some split action around the catch. Basketball Play - Communication Drill: 2 Sprints, 2 Stunts, Live

Communication Drill: 2 Sprints, 2 Stunts, Live

Matt Wheeler 11/01/2018

This competitive defensive drill focuses on closeouts, sprinting to help, and stunting at the ball. To add a communication component to it, require the defenders to say "I Got Ball" on the closeouts and "Help" when they are in help. The defense must defend and communicate four passes perfectly then they can play live 2v2. On the first two passes, the defenders sprint to help/closeout. On the third and fourth pass the defenders stunt at the ball as it is driven at them, then sprint to closeout/help. Use defense scoring in this drill. If the defense gets a stop they get a point and they stay on defense against the next team. If the defense doesn't communicate, sprint to help, close out correctly or they get scored on, they immediately lose and go to the end of the line and the offensive team goes to defense. Basketball Play - Maryland Terrapins - Basic Motion

Maryland Terrapins - Basic Motion

Dave Nedbalek 10/31/2018

This is an attempt to scout an initial action that Marlyand will start their true motion with. They run a true free flowing motion offense which has very little consistent patterns, and consists of many off ball screens and various combinations of those. This is a great offense in terms of the inability to scout it, and the constant burden of communication it places on the defense. Basketball Play - Marquette - 2-3 Nail Dive

Marquette - 2-3 Nail Dive

Dave Nedbalek 10/31/2018

I am not convinced this is a set play but I do love this action that led to the outcome. Marquette does a great job of creating triangles with defenders and gaps in their zone offense which puts the defense in decision situations where they will be wrong regardless of how they cover it. Basketball Play - Angle 3v3 Drill

Angle 3v3 Drill

Michael Shaughnessy 10/23/2018

Angle 3v3 Advantage/Disadvantage 3v3 putting the offense in a position to make a quick decision out of drive and kick while making the defense provide great helpside defense to contain the offense. Description: Player 1 starts the drill once they make their movement downhill. Player x1 can't move to try and recover until player 1 starts their movement. Rules: Player 1 has to attempt to get downhill through the elbow. Player's 2 & 3 have to relocate once player 1 attacks downhill. (* If 1 passes early before the elbow [kick ahead], player in the strong side corner can hold the spot being shot ready). If the ball sticks and movement becomes stagnant, it will result in a turnover for the offense. Hold players accountable to re-space with urgency after a drive and kick-out. Goals: Play drive & kick game until the 3 players on offense are able to creat a rhythm shot, downhill drive to the rim, or a one more pass for a catch and shoot. Score it, you keep it. Play to a certain amount of points or time. See More
