Favorite Send to FastDrawAnother Sideline Out of Bounds (SLOB) play Nick Nurse introduced in his first season as the Head Coach for the Toronto Raptors is one which uses the same formation as SLOB "1". Through misdirection to make the defense believe "1" is being run, the Raptors have caught defenses by surprise quite frequently before engaging in a middle ball screen after a dribble handoff (DHO). This is typically a set play used to get Kawhi Leonard a possession as a pick and roll ball handler. Free Download: Toronto Raptors Playbook See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Toronto Raptors' most frequently used Sideline Out of Bounds (SLOB) play in 2018-19 forces the defense to move laterally before being put in position to defend a "Stack" ball screen. SLOB "1" features a Slice cut and Mover-Blocker principles before a high pick and roll to attack the defense downhill. SLOB "3" is a counter. Free Download: Toronto Raptors Playbook See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Toronto Raptors have altered the spacing and sequencing of normal pin down series' with this play. By engaging off ball defenders to actively track non-threats, Nick Nurse has developed a quick hitter with multiple options that flows freely depending on what the defense gives up. Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is an after time out (ATO) play primarily used by Head Coach Nick Nurse and the Toronto Raptors to get Kyle Lowry a pull-up 3-pointer. By keeping the defense honest with the occassional solid cross screen and flex cut, Lowry's defender is forced to trail him as he approaches the "uphill" DHO to make this an effective set play. Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a situation where having a 4 that can handle the ball can make your offense dynamic. On this play, Aaron Gordon acts as point guard, running a basic Pick and Roll with Nikola Vucevic, along with some added motion with the 1 and 2. This accomplishes a few things: A) The beginning of the set looks almost as if the point guard is coming up to take the ball, which forces the defense to anticipate. B) Having the 4 as the ball handler, 1 off the ball, and the 3 stuck in the corner puts Russell Westbrook and Paul George off the ball, allowing the offense to attack the Thunder's weaker players. C) A taller player can simply see the roll man better and deliver a nice pass that goes through the help defense in a way that a smaller player may not be able to do. D) The off-ball motion during the roll forces defenders to keep their attention on their assignments away from the ball. While this play requires players with unique skillsets, the concepts can be translated to just about any level, the idea that having a ball handler who is not the typical ball handler can be used to exploit weaknesses in the defense in ways that only using a traditional point guard cannot. Favorite Send to FastDraw2v2 Choke is a #PackLine Drill to teach team post defense. "Choking the post" by the guard and "walling up" by the post defender combine in an effort to get the ball out of the post box. By choking the guard reduces the space the post has to make a move. See video below for game application of this drll ft. the Virginia Cavaliers (NCAA). Favorite Send to FastDrawCoaches - if you want an easy two points against a zone defense, add this to your playbook ASAP! This is a action that we have ran as a BLOB with tremendous success. See the diagrams and video in my playbank! We decided to start running this as a half court set as well, and this is what we came up with. Run your best shooter along the baseline to distract the wing defender. Once that happens, the hook is set and we seal the middle of the zone allowing a clear path for a layup. Favorite Send to FastDrawQuick hitter by coach Rick Carlisle for an open perimeter shot. Center should call "pick" in order to baffle the defense and suddenly change direction (slip) to set the wide pin down screen for 3. View Plays of the Week - Unlocking the NBA's Top Offense! See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawLoop cuts - also known as Iverson cuts - are a great way to shift a defense. Creating a shift followed by a counter flow can often lead to an open look. This set will almost always get you a low post catch when needed. In the video below, the ball is fed into the post from the slot. in MOST scenarios, I like the ball reversed to the lift which creates a much better angle for a post feed. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIn 3v3 On-To-Off the defense is working on moving on airtime of the pass. Players must move on and off the ball to pressure the ball and shrink gaps with urgency. When all three offensive players have touched the ball once the drill is 3v3 live.
