Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Denver Nuggets run this misdirection Hammer set to free up a shooter in the corner. The use a flare screen at the top to occupy the help defense, forcing a weak side defender to rotate towards the ball. That rotation sets up an opening in the corner for a shooter to make a cut to. Favorite Send to FastDrawThis play was run by the Portland TrailBlazers in the 2013-2014 season to get Nicolas Batum an open three point attempt on the wing coming off a downscreen. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Portland TrailBlazers ran Twin Zipper Flare last season, and again this season, to get their shooters open looks off a flare screen. The action serves as a misdirection by swinging to one side of the floor, then reversing back to the original side once it empties. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis play was run by the New Orleans Pelicans on their opening night against the Indiana Pacers. Zip 54 Rub is designed to get Anthony Davis an open wing jumper, using his athleticism and comfort on the perimeter to throw off his post defender. Most post defenders aren't used to going over handoffs or screens, and this pattern that Davis runs forces them to do so. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis play was run by the New Orleans Pelicans on their home opener against the Indiana Pacers, trying to get the ball to Eric Gordon off a downscreen. The Pelicans have an interesting offense, trying to stretch the floor with their face-up big men, which are plentiful on their roster. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIn the Bucks-Celtics game on 11-1, the Bucks ran a double backscreen for Larry Sanders out of Horns to try to get him a lob. The play was run out of the Horns formation and flowed naturally into a four-out set with a screen-the-screener action. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis ballscreen set was run last season by the Hawks with great success. Al Horford set great screens for Josh Smith at the elbows, and with Smith's rare ability to drive and dish from the forward position, the alley oop was so tough to stop. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawJaguar is a play coming out of a high post offense, where the ball looks to go inside for a backdoor initially. If that backdoor is taken away, the set quickly expands to get two three point shooters open looks, taking advantage of how tightly the defense constricted around the lane to take away the initial backdoor. Favorite Send to FastDrawBill Self ran this SLOB play for Ben McLemore last year with the Kansas Jayhawks. When teams blanketed McLemore on the perimeter, this was a good option for him to slip to the rim while the weak side help is drawn away by a downscreen. McLemore (2) is the inbounder on this play. Favorite Send to FastDrawFrank Martin and the South Carolina Gamecocks use this basic motion format at times as part of their "Spread" attack. The Gamecocks usually play with four guards under Martin, although the motion sets itself okay if the 4 is also a big man. The idea of the offense isn't to penetrate the defense through dribbling, but through getting an overload on one side in order to clear the opposite for a two-man game. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawBob McKillop and the Davidson Men's Basketball Team run this as one option in their 4-out motion offense as a quick option out of transition. This play has the featured action of a downscreen for the big man, whom McKillop has featured frequently as a good shooter over the past few seasons. If there is a stretch shooting big man on your team, this is a nice set to get him coming off a downscreen. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawToday's Play of the Day is a transition option from Fred Hoiberg and the Iowa State Cyclones for a stretch shooting big man. Hoiberg ran this set coming out of transition for his forward Georges Niang, particularly against Kansas and Jef Withey, who was exceptionally poor at defending on the perimeter. This action fits well into Hoiberg's overall motion offense, which is strongly perimeter-based. His general pattern of offense has been dubbed basketball's version of the "Spread Offense". See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIn late game situations when you need a three pointer, Wheels is a good double screen set that frees up your shooter. When 1 comes off a double ball screen, he has room to stretch out the play on the perimeter, which allowed the double pindown to open up a shooter. 3 is the designed shooter in this scenario. Favorite Send to FastDrawBox Flare Drop is an end game SLOB play that gets a layup for your best post player. With 5-10 seconds left and needing only a two-pointer, the play starts in a box formation with a shooter starting on the opposite block. See More
