Today's Play of the Day is a transition option from Fred Hoiberg and the Iowa State Cyclones for a stretch shooting big man. Hoiberg ran this set coming out of transition for his forward Georges Niang, particularly against Kansas and Jef Withey, who was exceptionally poor at defending on the perimeter. This action fits well into Hoiberg's overall motion offense, which is strongly perimeter-based. His general pattern of offense has been dubbed basketball's version of the "Spread Offense".
5 sets an elbow screen for 4; 1-4 ball screen as 2 pins for 5. If 5 doesn't have a catch and shoot, 2 clears to the corner and the offense is now in a balanced five-out formation.
