Basketball Play - Motion Weak Variation

Motion Weak Variation

Randy Sherman 08/17/2016

Variation of the Spurs iconic "motion weak" demonstrated by the USA Women's National Team in their quarterfinal win over Japan in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Instead of the signature cross screen/down screen sequence, the screen sets a back screen after the cross screen. Set a good screen, cause help, then separate from th screen for a three-point opportunity. See More

Basketball Play - Chicago Bulls "Zipper Backdoor"

Chicago Bulls "Zipper Backdoor"

Gibson Pyper 02/04/2016

This is exactly like the action the San Antonio Spurs run. Because the Chicago Bulls like to post up Pau Gasol and he is an excellent passer, this set works well. Typically designed after a time out, Butler cuts off Gasol who receives the pass in the post. Giving Butler time to clear the cut is key, so the timing of the lob/backdoor cut can be perfect. Basketball Play - Warriors Motion Weak

Warriors Motion Weak

Adam Spinella 01/21/2016

Motion Weak, or "Thru", is a common NBA early offense set that can be run at any level. It is effective at using player movement and ball movement, trying to establish the post first and foremost, and getting a shooter open off a down screen. It is one of the best and most standard screen-the-screener actions, and it also results in tremendous floor balance with many wrinkles possible. Gregg Popovich of the Spurs has long been utilizing this set of offense. Steve Kerr and the Warriors have added a wrinkle, turning the set into a Horns formation off the down screen. See More

Basketball Play - Floppy DHO

Floppy DHO

Cody Toppert 09/04/2015

A DHO entry to Floppy will most likely be on the wing Guard to Guard. This means the point guard would speed dribble pitch the ball to the corner wing coming up. The wing will now become the point of initiation and the point guard will be come the activated player. This look most likely proceeds to be a back screening action by the strong side big. The popular version employed by the San Antonio Spurs involves a guard-to-guard DHO and a triple staggered baseline screen for Tony Parker who sprints the base line to find the scoring option on the weak side. Important to not the weak side wing must be the second screener I order to prevent a switch on the final screen, thus negating any type of advantage or open shot. Once the defense gets use to the triple baseline screen, Tony Parker will often times enter and exit the same side, thus showing us a DHO into a traditional Floppy Look. See More

Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors "Elbow Lob"

Golden State Warriors "Elbow Lob"

Steve Kerr has also used alot of action that the San Antonio Spurs have run with their Motion Strong/Weak and he runs nice options out of this for quick hitters. The first option is a rub screen for Draymond (look for them pointing or hitting their elbow's coming up the court to trigger this). They also run a quick pindown screen for Klay that they like to start each game with, as well as a lob set for Livingston. I think they will run the lob for Shaun Livingston as an entry or way to get him into the post, his matchup off the bench may be Matthew Dellevadova that he clearly will have a height advantage with. Basketball Play - NBA Playbook "Zip Thunder"

NBA Playbook "Zip Thunder"

Gibson Pyper 05/25/2015

This set originally comes from the San Antonio Spurs and Gregg Popovich. Originally a set designed to get Tim Duncan an open jumper by setting a down screen and allowing him to catch at the elbow. This set has been adapted by this years Golden State Warriors, the 2013-14 Miami Heat & this years Philadelphia 76ers! This set is great if you have a stretch 4 or a 4 man who can handle and pass well, and a big man who can shoot it. The Heat ran a nice counter out of it for Ray Allen, after he set the down screen for Bosh, he would come off a baseline screen to look for a shot. See More

Basketball Play - NBA Golden State Warriors: Dribble Hand-Off / Pick and Roll Action

NBA Golden State Warriors: Dribble Hand-Off / Pick and Roll Action

Scott Peterman 05/24/2015

Here is a NBA Golden State Warriors Dribble Hand-Off / Pick and Roll Action from Game 3 of the NBA Western Conference Finals. Steve Kerr is doing an excellent job in getting great motion and action into his set plays for their players. The Golden State Warriors are the team that I want to watch in the NBA Play-offs for my new sets. Steve Kerry has installed a system that is like the NBA San Antonio Spurs in it's movement, flow and creativity. The starters and reserves have bought into this system all season. David Lee is even getting a second chance in these NBA Playoffs. He is seizing the moment too. Stephy Curry and Klay Thompson are indeed the Splash Brothers and either of them can go off for 20 points in a quarter at any moment. Curry is the MVP, but Thompson is likely to go off on any night. They were one of the best teams ever in the regular season, despite the trip up from the always difficult Memphis Grizzlies. I love this action and you will notice that I chose a play where Steph Curry isn't in the game. It's an example of how their reserves have bought in. Basketball Play - Los Angeles Clippers "Horns Seal Leak"

Los Angeles Clippers "Horns Seal Leak"

Gibson Pyper 04/30/2015

Doc Rivers loves to get Chris Paul & Blake Griffin in a Post Pick & Roll situation to put the defense in a tough situation. Out of this set, they ran a counter late against the San Antonio Spurs to get Chris Paul moving and attacking off a double screen. Instead of setting a flex screen and then sealing his man for a post up, Paul leaks out and receives a dribble handoff from Blake Griffin and attacks off a ballscreen from DeAndre Jordan. See More
