Basketball Play - Clippers Zipper L ATO

Clippers Zipper L ATO

Craig LeVasseur 04/29/2015

The Clippers used this ATO play in Game 5 against the Spurs, down 3 with 30 seconds left in the game. Chris Paul receives an L ballscreen from the Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, and the play is set up by Paul using the screen from Jordan. Jordan rolls hard off of the screen, and the spread alignment forces x4, Duncan, to bump the roll from Jordan and avoid the lob. Paul quickly throws back to Griffin, who swings and follows for a Side P/R with Jamal Crawford. There is no way Duncan can Show against the ballscreen after having to bump Jordan in the paint, and this forces a difficult rotation for the Spurs to contain the roll by Griffin. See More

Basketball Play - Los Angeles Clippers "45 PNR"

Los Angeles Clippers "45 PNR"

Gibson Pyper 04/27/2015

Chris Paul has really hurt the San Antonio Spurs in this years playoffs running this PNR Set. Doc Rivers called it "45" from the sideline (hand motion 4-5 blinking) and this set has allowed Chris Paul to attack off the PNR very well. Both bigs start at the elbows, and then flash near half court at the same time setting a ballscreen on each side for Chris Paul to attack off of. They have options where a big turns, but the main reason this set works is due to the fact that San Antonio likes to pressure high. It forces the bigs to make a decision and does not allow a guard to go under the ballscreen. See More

Basketball Play - Mike Budenholzer Atlanta Hawks: Stretch Four Shooter Play

Mike Budenholzer Atlanta Hawks: Stretch Four Shooter Play

Scott Peterman 02/28/2015

Mike Budenholzer and his ball sharing, pass-happy scheme have teh Atlanta Hawks on top of the NBA Eastern Conference Standings. Coach Budenholzer says that he likes seeing his players get on each other when someone strays from his lessons on court spacing, pick and rolls, and pass after pass. The Atlanta Hawks were long know for isolation basketball. They had to change their ways when Mike Bedenholder was hired from the San Antonio Spurs. Now there is balance among all the five starters scoring in double figures. I really liked this Stretch Four Play for Kyle Korver of the Atlanta Hawks. Basketball Play - David Blatt Horns 1 Set Play

David Blatt Horns 1 Set Play

Scott Peterman 02/19/2015

David Blatt been around the Israeli and Euroleague basketball circuit. Including coaching for Maccabi Tel Aviv (they de bezt, alweyz de bezt) and the Russian National Team (Kirilenko, Mozgov, Shved). He coached Anthony Parker back into the NBA. Names don't exactly get the point across, but let it be known, that he has coached winning teams, almost exclusively. And thats the point of the game. From what I can gather Blatt's teams run a lot through a horns offense. Which, if you don't know, puts two guys- one on either- high post (witch's nipple), two guys in opposite corner/wings and starts with the ball handler at the top of the key. It is not a triangle offense, but it does revolve around cerebral players creating space with passing, smart cutting and good footwork. Certainly a proprietor of the Triangle has respect for this, a verySpurs-y set of offensive goals. Everybody needs touches to make this kitten purr. Everyone needs to fill the open spaces that relate to their skill set, and everyone must become a threat when they have the ball. Basketball Play - PRICELESS

PRICELESS

Marc Skelton 07/27/2014

This has been called "The Beautiful Play". The Spurs ran this at the end of the 3rd quarter in Game 6 of the WCF at OKC. The Spurs are winning 72-69 and have possession after a great steal and hustle play by Patty Mills. Coach Popovich calls the play. Manu gets the guys in the right position and waits the clock out. Around 7 seconds left on the clock Duncan sprints to screen Fisher. Manu dribbles left and hits Mills. Mills fires to Duncan. Duncan hits Boris in the corner for a three as the shot clock expires. The Spurs would go on to win Game 6 in overtime. This play includes end of quarter situations, communication, first class passing, and they did it on the road. Beautiful. See More

Basketball Play - Rhody Back Side

Rhody Back Side

Kyle Gilreath 06/13/2014

In their Game 4 win of the 2014 NBA Finals, the San Antonio Spurs ran this half-court set which included a multitude of actions. As soon as 3 cleared 4, 2 was moving to set the backscreen. This timing allowed for 5 to pin-down for 2 and receive the ball on the move popping out. 5 set such a good pick and sealed in the lane that X4 had to help in the lane and allowed for an open throwback to Diaw. Basketball Play - Zipper Quick

Zipper Quick

Kyle Gilreath 06/11/2014

With 3 seconds left in the 3rd quarter of Game 3 of the 2014 NBA Finals, the San Antonio Spurs ran this sideline out-of-bounds play. As soon as 1 cleared Diaw’s shoulder he shaped up back to the ball immediately to receive the pass from Green. Green was able to get a shot off but Miami’s defense prevent him from getting a clean look and the shot came up short. See More
