The Spurs ran this play at 6:59 of Q4 in game 5. The play involves a staggered screen for Manu and a dribble hand off between Duncan and Paker. After Duncan was isolated between the elbow and mid post he made a tremendous move on Bosh. The Spurs ran this at the 7:15 mark in the first quarter of their 104-93 game 3 win over Memphis. This is one of my favorite sets the Spurs run and it is very difficult to guard because the defender has to run off three screens and there are a variety of counters to each defensive adjustment. Often the 2 man comes offf 5's zipper screen but in this situation, 2 just cut to the top and 5 set the first of three screens. This play demonstrates just one option and read of many possibilities. The ending to this play was great because Memphis trapped the ball screen, Paker hit the pop man Duncan and then Duncan hit Paker on the backdoor cut. The unselfish ball movement by the Spurs is a great part of their offense. See More

Manu rejects the side ball screen and drives to the baseline throwing the running out of bounds one haded pass like Steve Nash. The help is in the lane and Duncan sets a great flare screen for a wide open Green in the corner for the 3 point shot. See More

With the game tied 85-85 and 3.3 seconds left on the clock the Spurs ran this sideline out of bounds play in their 93-89 game 2 OT win over Memphis. Duncan set a great screen to free Manu up, but Leonard was unable to make the pass. Duncan flashed to the ball and shot a contested three but if Leonard hit Manu, Manu would have had great momentum driving to the hoop for the game winner. See More

Last night in their exciting Game 2 matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals, the San Antonio Spurs ran this pick & pop action to open up the floor with several options to score. As I have preached quite a bit recently, I love screening bigs into pick & rolls. What makes this play so special is that it allowed Duncan to pop to the elbow for one of his go-to shots. Additionally, the Spurs screened in for hot shooting Danny Green for a possible look from the deep corner. Not only did this screen for Green give them another scoring option, but it took some of the help out of the paint in the even Parker turned the corner to get to the rim. See More

Last night trailing the Golden State Warriors in overtime of Game 3 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals, the San Antonio Spurs ran this beautiful Sideline Out of Bounds play to get Danny Green an open 3-pointer. Coach Popovich did a tremendous job with the spacing of his personnel on the floor with this action. First, by slipping Tim Duncan to the rim, it forced the weak side defenders to help in the ane a little more. Secondly, with the defense already shifted in the lane, as Leonard sprinted out into the pick the Warriors' defense helped high which opened up a driving lane for Ginobili. With the defense focused on Duncan and Ginobili this opened up the flare in the corner for the knock down 3-pointer. See More
