Basketball Play - Finland Horns PNR Block Pin

Finland Horns PNR Block Pin

Wes Kosel 06/19/2015

1 dribbles off of the high ball-screen from 4 towards the right side of the floor. 3 moves in to the low post. If 1 doesn't have anything going right, he turns and comes left off of a ball-screen from 4. At the same time, 5 screens down for 3. 1 can look to shoot, drive to the rim, pass to 3 for a shot, or pass to 5 slipping to the rim. See More

Basketball Play - Cal State Northridge Zipper 1

Cal State Northridge Zipper 1

Wes Kosel 05/29/2015

5 and 4 start at the elbows and screen down for 3 and 2. 1 dribbles to the right wing and gives the ball to 3 on the zipper cut. 2 quickly passes to 3, and 1 runs across a staggered baseline screen to the opposite corner. If 1 doesn't have a shot, 2 makes a cut off of a back screen for 4 and a cross screen from 5. If the shot for 2 isn't there, 5 runs toward 1 as if setting a ball-screen and slips towards the rim. 4 sets a ball-screen for 1. See More

Basketball Play - 3 on 3 on Top (side ball screen)

3 on 3 on Top (side ball screen)

Randy Sherman 05/21/2015

3 on 3 on Top (side/wing ball screen) Offensive restriciton: pass and follow to the ball screen. There are many ways to teach defending ball screens. In this drill you can practice trapping the ball screen, ICEing the ball screen, flat hedging or hard hedging. Adapt it to your personal philosophy. For the #PressureManTips series, I will illustrate the hard hedge (some call this "blitz"). Points of emphasis: HEDGE: get hip-to-hip with the screener, widen the wide side of your body by extending outside arm and leg. Make the ball handler "bubble" their dribble, go with them 2-3 steps then recover. ON THE BALL: reach your away foot over the top foot of the screener and then run through the gap to recover to man and force back up the rooftop. HELP: Break the Line Rules and get to midline! even though the ball is at or above FTLE, get to midline. Look for anything "leaking" out of the ball screen (slip, roll or reject) Drill continues with pass and follow to ball screen action. See More

Basketball Play - Houston Rockets Elbow Get

Houston Rockets Elbow Get

Craig LeVasseur 05/12/2015

Houston used this play multiple times in the 1st round series against the Dallas Mavericks. Josh Smith and Dwight Howard posed massive problems defensively for the Mavericks with this play. Dwight Howard slipped or rolled hard for multiple lobs, sealed x4 when the defense switched, and even sealed on a switch and then spun out again for a lob. Add in Josh Smith's ability to finish with his running left hook in the lane, and this play caused fits for the defense. See More

Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors "Wing Twirl Double"

Golden State Warriors "Wing Twirl Double"

Gibson Pyper 04/23/2015

One of the most lethal actions the Warriors run is having Steph & Klay twirl on the wing. Usually Steph cuts to set a down screen for Klay, looking for a quick shot, in this set they "Twirl" or Klay cuts off of the screen and curls back inside setting another quick screen for Steph. Out of this action, the first guard receives a dribble handoff and the other cuts through off a double screen, looking for a shot. Kerr also runs a counter out of this where instead of cutting off double screen Klay is involved in the double screen and "Leaks" or slips out early to get a shot. See More

Basketball Play - ULL Horns Post Step Out

ULL Horns Post Step Out

Wes Kosel 04/20/2015

This play is simple yet effective. The point guard passes to 5 at the high post and cuts away as if he is going to move into the lane. Instead, 1 screens down for 4 who pops out to the top of the key for a 3-point shot. If the defense starts anticipating this action, look to send 1 off of a flare or to the basket on a slip. Basketball Play - Boston Celtics Slice 1

Boston Celtics Slice 1

Craig LeVasseur 04/16/2015

Rajon Rondo’s size often led to mismatches, and this Slice variation used by the Celtics allowed him to call his own number and get a good post up opportunity on the block. The setup looks exactly like regular Slice, but the 2 man rejects the flex screen, allowing Rondo to slip around the 5 and seal his defender. See More

Basketball Play - Shocker Zone Lob

Shocker Zone Lob

Wes Kosel 04/08/2015

Here is a quick zone hitter from Wichita State used to create an open lob. The play starts with a ball reversal and a pass to 4 in the corner. Once 4 gets the ball, 5 steps to the short corner looking for a shot. If 5 isn't open, 4 dribbles up to the wing bringing the zone defender up with him. 4 then passes to 2. At that time, 3 flashes to the high post taking the attention of the zone defenders. 2 quickly passes to 1 as 5 slips behind the zone defenders to set a back-screen for 4. 1 looks to make the lob pass over the top of the defense to 4 for a dunk. Basketball Play - Michigan State Forwards Out Wide

Michigan State Forwards Out Wide

Craig LeVasseur 03/22/2015

Michigan State ran this play early against Virginia in the NCAA round of 32. MSU runs this Forwards Out look, which is very similar to NBA Chin action but with the guards and forwards inverted, and can run many different options out of it. The Wide option is designed to put x5 in multiple help situations, and here x5 overhelped on the wide pin down, resulting in a slip to the basket for an easy dunk. See More

Basketball Play - Davidson Sets

Davidson Sets

Andrew Lacey 03/21/2015

Davidson is one of the best perimeter shooting teams in the NCAA Tournament. The do a great job of screen for the 3 and then putting pressure on the basket at the same time by using cuts away from the ball and slipping screens. Here is a little action they use in the first half against Iowa to get a easy lay-up and decent perimeter looks. See More
