Basketball Play - 2v1 Help Side and Box Out

2v1 Help Side and Box Out

Dymetrius Ware 08/13/2019

This is an awesome drill for stations during practice. Players are working on coming off a guarded player and getting to help position and stopping the ball. If the offense gets a shot off, defense must get back and box out the offensive player coming from the weak side (original matchup). See full instructions below. See More

Zone Quick Hitter - Dribble Push

Michael Lynch 11/13/2018

Here is a way to incorporate a dribble drive attack into your zone offense. Using a wing dribble entry, we shift the defense to the ball side, then set a backside ball screen to create a 2/1 on the backside. Basketball Play - Communication Drill: 3v3 Flex Screen Defense

Communication Drill: 3v3 Flex Screen Defense

Matt Wheeler 11/01/2018

This continuous 3v3 drill teaches the defense to defend the flex action using different roles with different communication responsibilities. The drill will will be repeated three times so each defensive player has an opportunity to practice each part. 3 calls the screen and provides help. 2 goes over the cross screen on the baseline and communicates when matched back up. 1 communicates the down screen and opens up to allow 3 to get through the screen. 3 informs 1 when he is through the screen and matched up. Basketball Play - Fullcourt Moves on the Move

Fullcourt Moves on the Move

Joel Hueser 10/01/2018

Moves on the Move In order to break down a defender on the move, we encourage all players to develop a go-to move and counter move. Consider the following points as well: 1. Maintain a speed of 80 mph (80%). 2. Attack the defense right between their eyes. Go right at them! 3. Make your move a stride or two away and attack the defender’s outside shoulder at 100 mph (full speed). 4. Finally, close the gap once you get by them. 5. Be sure to practice these moves on both sides of the floor!!! See More

Basketball Play - 4v4 Neutral Restrictions

4v4 Neutral Restrictions

Michael Lynch 08/31/2018

Using four out perimeter spacing we try to recreate game like situations in the short sided game (SSG) format. Here we have our most common actions within our Dribble Drive Motion system. Starting the SSG in a neutral scenario, it is up to the offense to use a pre-determined action to create A) a Double Gap and B) Drive the Basketball into it. Coaches can pre-determine the action or simply allow players to create freely. See videos below for game examples of these actions! Basketball Play - Advance Pass Closeouts

Advance Pass Closeouts

Michael Shaughnessy 08/17/2018

Here is a 1v1 drill that I use to put a sense of urgency on all of the players involved. It develops our guards to get in a habit of advancing the ball over half court with the pass, sprint to the corner in transition, and defensively sprint back to the paint before fanning out to their match up. Take a look and hopefully it is something that you can add to your workouts or practices for your players. See More

Basketball Play - Starts, Stops, Turns Passing Drill

Starts, Stops, Turns Passing Drill

Michael Shaughnessy 08/15/2018

Getting players communicating, bringing energy, and getting comfortable with the ball, feet, and sharing the ball are all things that set the tone for a great workout/practice. Here is a drill that incorporates all of these things and is one of my favorites to start with in my training sessions with players. Basketball Play - Boston College 4v4 Transition Drill

Boston College 4v4 Transition Drill

Michael Lynch 08/13/2018

The progression of drills is really effective in this Boston College "Fast Break Concepts" video created by Coach Chris Oliver of @BballImmersion. The 4v4 Transition Drill that begins at about the 7:00 mark was one that I thought was particularly useful. The Offense starts with a slight 4 v 2 advantage and seeks to make a pitch ahead pass for a score. Whether the offense misses or makes, the defense will then take the ball back up the court 4v4.
