Basketball Play - Transition Offense

Transition Offense

Dana Beszczynski 02/24/2014

The Bruins of Belmont have a line-up which is extremely hard to guard. With dangerous weapons on the perimeter, guarding them requires a lot of planning and a good strategy. This set shows a lot of movement and if the defense switches the FT line screen, it sets up an open 3 pt shot, inside pass or open side penetration depending on who's handling the ball. In this situation, Windler the leading 3 pt shooter in the Conference gets a wide open shot made possible by the quick passing of the Bruins in their half court offense. See More

Basketball Play - Murray State SLOB to Triple Stagger

Murray State SLOB to Triple Stagger

Dana Beszczynski 02/21/2014

This Set Play run by Murray State from a SLOB situation is really well designed. The Racers use three sets of double staggered screens to get themselves into a position for the best shot in the offense. The timing and execution of this play was great to watch and Payne does a good job getting his post man a touch inside after a perfect read of the defense, using the zipper cut up the lane to take advantage of the defense cheating over the top. Belmont Horns

Dana Beszczynski 02/14/2014

Belmont has gone from a NAIA school to NCAA Division I under Head Coach Rick Byrd who is in his 28th season in charge. This Horns set relies on "reading" the defense and attacking the right option with the end SPNR action. This set play run in their MVC match-up against Belmont uses good spacing and ends with multiple passing options. The Racers are an exciting team to watch with Freshman PG Cameron Payne taking over the team. Basketball Play - Santa Clara Double Ball Screen

Santa Clara Double Ball Screen

Dana Beszczynski 02/12/2014

Santa Clara ran this double ball screen action the other night in their match-up against BYU. This is a good set forcing the defense to make quick decisions on who to guard. The end result is a wide open shot from the short corner on the weak side as the defender on the 4 man goes to far too help on the pin down screen. Santa Clara ran a lot of nice sets in this game and Coach Keating does a good job getting his players in spots where they can be successful in the offense. See More

Basketball Play - Secondary Staggers

Secondary Staggers

Dana Beszczynski 02/10/2014

Santa Clara plays in the WCC and Head Coach Kerry Keating has done a good job of revitalizing Broncos basketball. They achieved 24+ wins for the second time in 3 years in 2012-13. In their WCC match-up with BYU on Thursday night, they ran this Secondary Action which incorporates the use of a double staggered screen & the shuffle screen. There is a lot of player and ball movement in this set forcing the defense to react quickly. Taking advantage of the long hedge at the end of this play, the Bronocs were able to jump out to an early lead on the 3 pt play. See More

Basketball Play - Power Gap

Power Gap

Kyle Gilreath 02/05/2014

Last night the Florida Gators ran this zone offense play which lead to Freshman Chris Walker’s first points in a Gator uniform. If you watch Florida enough, you know that Billy Donovan frequently runs pick & rolls versus a zone to get two defenders guarding one and put the defense in compromising situations. This overloaded action does just that. What makes this play especially hard to guard is Florida had two point guards on the Florida making them extra dangerous on the dribble. As Kasey Hill came off the pick, not only did he have the options shown below, but he also had a throwback option to their lethal 3-point threat Michael Frazier II. Syracuse Transition Stagger Action

Dana Beszczynski 02/02/2014

Head Coach Jim Boeheim has once again shown what a masterful Coach he is turning this year's Orange into the 2nd ranked team in the nation with an undefeated record. The Orange have made a smooth transition to the ACC and sit atop the standings with a big showdown against Duke looming this Saturday in the Dome where over 34,000 tickets have been sold. This Transition Stagger action is a good way to get a shooter off early in the offense if the defense sits back and relaxes. The play can also end in a post entry pass. See More

Basketball Play - Pittsburg Secondary Offense

Pittsburg Secondary Offense

Dana Beszczynski 01/26/2014

Head Coach Jamie Dixon of Pittsburg has built a consistent winner. This season they're 17-2 and 12-0 at home where the Panthers during Dixon's tenure have been nearly unbeatable. This Secondary Action is just one example of the great tactician Dixon is as it incorporates a lot of movement, use of screens and relies on the players to read the defense in order to take good shots. The Panthers have moved into the ACC this season and so far, have maintained the level of success they've become use to. See More
