Florida Gulf Coast was the darling of last year's NCAA Tournament and former Coach Andy Enfield landed a job at USC based on last year's success. Joe Dooley took over "Dunk City" and has the Eagles once again in contention for an automatic bid. After a long career on the sidelines next to Bill Self at Kansas, Dooley brought his philosophy to FGCU and this year the Eagles at the top of the Atlantic Sun Conference with a 14-4 record and a share of the Conference Title. This set play utitlizes the SPNR to get the 2 man a chance to use his speed to penetrate to the open side. The Kentucky Wildcats ran this half-court set during the 2012 Men's Final Four. Coach Calipari does a great job with this action occupying the weak side defense with a double (stagger) action. 2 had the option of using the pick & roll (with Anthony Davis rolling), or he could turn down the screen because X1 and X4 consumed with the weak side action. UCF head coach Donnie Jones drew up this play at the end of their game versus Rutgers Wednesday night to give them the lead, and ultimately the win. Jones put the ball in the hands of his best player Isaiah Sykes (2) to create off the ball screen and Sykes did just that.
