Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors - Zipper Iverson Step Up

Golden State Warriors - Zipper Iverson Step Up

Matt Wheeler 06/10/2017

The Golden State Warriors started the third quarter of Game 4 of the NBA Finals with a concerted effort to get Steph Curry (1) the ball in ball screen situations. After Curry gets the pass off the zipper screen, Klay Thompson (2) makes a decoy Iverson cut off of 5 & 4. This clears the defense to the weak side of the floor and forces x5 to provide help, making him late in the ball screen coverage. See More

Basketball Play - Drift Pass Progression Drills

Drift Pass Progression Drills

Michael Shaughnessy 06/09/2017

A drift pass is made from a baseline drive or catch where you force rotation from the defense. Teammates should be spaced in the opposite corner or slot. If they are not in position as the catch or drive occurs, then it is his or her responsibility to move to those spots as an outlet for their teammate. Baseline drives either force defense to rotate with the help defender covering down on the big or the defense begins to ball watch losing sight of their match up and being late on the closeout. Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors - Double Drag Post Stagger Split

Golden State Warriors - Double Drag Post Stagger Split

Matt Wheeler 06/08/2017

The Golden State Warriors used this play early in Game 3 of the NBA Finals to get a look for Klay Thompson (1) off of a post entry action. It's a great play to get the defense to guard multiple actions and get the ball back in your point guard's hands for a shot. The double drag at the beginning of the play was a decoy action to get the ball into the post. After the post entry 1 & 5 set a staggered split screen for 2, who cut to the basket off of 1. 1 was getting overplayed on the screen from 5 and rejected the screen to go backdoor for a layup. Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors - PNR Lob

Golden State Warriors - PNR Lob

Matt Wheeler 06/05/2017

The Golden State Warriors ran this play in the 1st quarter, shortly after Javale McGee (5) checked into the game. This play utililizes the athleticism of 5, getting him open because the defense can't provide help on the ball screen off of Steph Curry (1) or Klay Thompson (2). As Kevin Durant (4) turns the corner on the ball screen, McGee gets a running start to the rim. Kevin Love tries to provide help off of 3 but he couldn't get high enough to contest the lob. See More

Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavs - Stagger Back

Cleveland Cavs - Stagger Back

Doug Brotherton 05/29/2017

This BLOB has resulted in multiple big shots for the Cleveland Cavs. They ran it for a Kyrie Irving three pointer, in the 2016 NBA Playoffs against Detroit. They also ran it, as an ATO, in the 2017 NBA Playoffs for a game clinching lay-up. The stack formation makes it especially difficult to guard, as the defense can not pre-switch any of the actions. Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors Double Drag

Golden State Warriors Double Drag

Adam Spinella 05/22/2017

Golden State is a great defensive team, so they get to attack on offense multiple times per game before a defense gets set. When Curry has true post players surrounding him, the Warriors will often run into Double Drag, a double-high ball screen action that strikes before a defense can properly get into position. Because of the spacing of shooters in the corners and the attention Steph receives in ball screens, the rim is often left unguarded. See More

Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors - Elbow Side

Golden State Warriors - Elbow Side

Ryan Nguyen 05/17/2017

This is a wrinkle out of an Elbow action that the Phoenix Suns used to run during the Seven Seconds or Less era. As 5 rolls to the basket, 4 sets a down screen for 2 (Klay Thompson) making it hard for the help defense to tag the roll as X2 and X4 are occupied with the downscreen action on the weakside. 4 can look to slip to the basket or lift high as X4 has rim protection duties. Basketball Play - Boston Celtics - 15 Point Series

Boston Celtics - 15 Point Series

Doug Brotherton 05/13/2017

In a pivotal Game 6 of the 2017 NBA Playoffs, the Celtics were struggling offensively. Brad Stevens is excellent at designing multiple set sequences, to help his team find a rhythm. In the 2nd quarter, the Celtics ran this sequence, scoring on two of the three possessions. The only possession that they did not score was an open 3, which rimmed out. It was a terrific sequence, which kept the defense off balance. See More
