Richard Pitino took the University of Minnesota to the NIT Final where he was matched up against one of the true coaching legends of the game, SMU's Larry Brown. Brown was looking to be the first coach to win an NBA, NCAA, and NIT Championship. Kentucky ran this set in their matchup with Connecticut in the National Championship. This was the first play of the 2nd half and cut the UCONN lead to one. The play is made by Julius Randle who drives hard from the perimeter to draw the defense and make a pass for 3pt shot. Michigan ran this triangle set often during NCAA Tournament, particularly early in games. The motion creates a lot of movement, and ends with the ball in your best player's hands. The ball screen typically involved Stauskas (2) and Morgan (5). Because of the attention Stauskas gets, it often resulted in an open lane for Morgan to slip, because of the spacing it is difficult for the defense to leave good shooters. See More

Tony Bennett is a rising star in the ranks of DI Coach's. The Cavaliers get a lot of credit for their number ranked defense, but their offense is like a machine running smoothly throughout the 40:00 of action. The Wichita State Shockers ran this pick & roll flare (post-up) play towards the end of the 1st half in their 3rd round NCAA tournament game vs Kentucky. By spacing your shooters 2 and 3 in the corners you create a three-man game in which there is minimal help-the helper defense to allow for 4 and 5 to work together in the hi-low. Viriginia ran this quick hitter in the ACC Championship game against Duke on Sunday. Virginia runs this set looking to get one of their guards a backdoor cut at the basket. UVA does a great job in their motion offense staying patient and looking for great shot on each possession. Their patience and hard cuts will leave the defense suseptible to backdoor cuts. See More

Tennessee ran this ball screen action in overtime of their opening round win of the NCAA Tournament. Tennessee did a great job using ball screens throughout the game and used their size in the post. This set got a major basket in overtime when the defense overplayed and set up a back door cut to the basket. See More

While Florida struggled throughout the game to knock down shots from the outside, the Gators dominated the paint from start to finish vs Albany. What makes this play hard to guard is by sending 1 through to the corner, the defense must send X4 down to the corner, making it a 2 on 1 vs X5 in the paint. See More

Florida Gulf Coast was the darling of last year's NCAA Tournament and former Coach Andy Enfield landed a job at USC based on last year's success. Joe Dooley took over "Dunk City" and has the Eagles once again in contention for an automatic bid. After a long career on the sidelines next to Bill Self at Kansas, Dooley brought his philosophy to FGCU and this year the Eagles at the top of the Atlantic Sun Conference with a 14-4 record and a share of the Conference Title. This set play utitlizes the SPNR to get the 2 man a chance to use his speed to penetrate to the open side. If the defense helps, the Eagles have their shooters spotting up ready for the kick-out pass and also capable big man McKnight in position for a dump off pass or weak side rebound. See More

Bringing a wealth of experience with him from his playing days both at UCONN and in the NBA, the Huskies sets are well designed with lots of movement and screening actions. Executing the DHO out of Transition, the Wildcats use good ball & player movement to create multiple scoring opportunities. The exchange at the end of the play between Johnson & Tarczewski is a credit to how well coached Sean Miller's team is, being able to quickly read the defense and take advantage of what is given.
