Basketball Play - 145 High X

145 High X

Kyle Gilreath 04/17/2014

The UCONN Huskies ran this pick & roll play with a slip throughout the 2014 Men's Final Four. Connecticut's guards were very patient and made sure 5 was set before exploding off the pick and attacking the defense. To see EVERY play UCONN ran in the 2014 Final Four you can do so in my eBook Championship Execution! See More

Basketball Play - Richard Pitino Motion Set

Richard Pitino Motion Set

Dana Beszczynski 04/16/2014

Richard Pitino took the University of Minnesota to the NIT Final where he was matched up against one of the true coaching legends of the game, SMU's Larry Brown. Brown was looking to be the first coach to win an NBA, NCAA, and NIT Championship. This is a great Motion Set vs a M2M defense incorporating the use of the down screen, back screen, and middle ball screen. The lob option off the back screen is a quick hit action and an effective swing of the ball off the ball screen can catch the defense opening up a possible post pass. See More

Basketball Play - Kentucky- Horns Spread

Kentucky- Horns Spread

Jake Presutti 04/09/2014

Kentucky ran this set in their matchup with Connecticut in the National Championship. This was the first play of the 2nd half and cut the UCONN lead to one. The play is made by Julius Randle who drives hard from the perimeter to draw the defense and make a pass for 3pt shot. Aaron Harrison does a great job circling from the corner to the wing for a 3pt shot. See More

Basketball Play - Michigan Triangle Ball Screen

Michigan Triangle Ball Screen

Trevor Daugherty 04/07/2014

Michigan ran this triangle set often during NCAA Tournament, particularly early in games. The motion creates a lot of movement, and ends with the ball in your best player's hands. The ball screen typically involved Stauskas (2) and Morgan (5). Because of the attention Stauskas gets, it often resulted in an open lane for Morgan to slip, because of the spacing it is difficult for the defense to leave good shooters. See More

Basketball Play - UVA Motion

UVA Motion

Dana Beszczynski 03/31/2014

Tony Bennett is a rising star in the ranks of DI Coach's. The Cavaliers get a lot of credit for their number ranked defense, but their offense is like a machine running smoothly throughout the 40:00 of action. This Motion Offense utilizes the flare screen to keep the wheel moving as the Cavs look for either an open shooter or take advantage of penetration opportunities. The Cavaliers have it rolling and next up is Michigan State in the Sweet 16!! See More

Basketball Play - High - Twist

High - Twist

Alan Peel 03/28/2014

This play is a basline inbounds play (BLOB) that is a 1-4 high variation of "Twist" that I posted some time ago. This play can be run well against a man-to-man inbounds defense as opposed to the 1-4 low formation the play usually uses. Basketball Play - 1 Double Power

1 Double Power

Kyle Gilreath 03/27/2014

Syracuse ran this double pick & roll to get forward C.J. Fair posted up in an iso situation. By setting a stagger for 2, the Orange essentially cleared out any help defense for the isolation. For every play Syracuse ran during the 2013 Final Four check out my eBook, “Championship Execution”. See More

Basketball Play - Hook Twist

Hook Twist

Kyle Gilreath 03/27/2014

The Wichita State Shockers ran this pick & roll flare (post-up) play towards the end of the 1st half in their 3rd round NCAA tournament game vs Kentucky. By spacing your shooters 2 and 3 in the corners you create a three-man game in which there is minimal help-the helper defense to allow for 4 and 5 to work together in the hi-low. To see EVERY play Wichita State ran in the 2013 Final Four you can do so in my eBook Championship Execution! See More

Basketball Play - Virginia - Backdoor Cut (Quick Hitter)

Virginia - Backdoor Cut (Quick Hitter)

Jake Presutti 03/23/2014

Viriginia ran this quick hitter in the ACC Championship game against Duke on Sunday. Virginia runs this set looking to get one of their guards a backdoor cut at the basket. UVA does a great job in their motion offense staying patient and looking for great shot on each possession. Their patience and hard cuts will leave the defense suseptible to backdoor cuts. See More

Basketball Play - Stack Thru

Stack Thru

Kyle Gilreath 03/21/2014

While Florida struggled throughout the game to knock down shots from the outside, the Gators dominated the paint from start to finish vs Albany. What makes this play hard to guard is by sending 1 through to the corner, the defense must send X4 down to the corner, making it a 2 on 1 vs X5 in the paint. See More

Basketball Play - FGCU Side P&R

FGCU Side P&R

Dana Beszczynski 03/20/2014

Florida Gulf Coast was the darling of last year's NCAA Tournament and former Coach Andy Enfield landed a job at USC based on last year's success. Joe Dooley took over "Dunk City" and has the Eagles once again in contention for an automatic bid. After a long career on the sidelines next to Bill Self at Kansas, Dooley brought his philosophy to FGCU and this year the Eagles at the top of the Atlantic Sun Conference with a 14-4 record and a share of the Conference Title. This set play utitlizes the SPNR to get the 2 man a chance to use his speed to penetrate to the open side. If the defense helps, the Eagles have their shooters spotting up ready for the kick-out pass and also capable big man McKnight in position for a dump off pass or weak side rebound. See More

Basketball Play - UCONN 1-4 Set

UCONN 1-4 Set

Dana Beszczynski 03/16/2014

Kevin Ollie may be a young Coach, but his tactical skills are outstanding. Bringing a wealth of experience with him from his playing days both at UCONN and in the NBA, the Huskies sets are well designed with lots of movement and screening actions. This 1-4 set play has three scoring options and is predicated on the ability of the players to "read" the defense. Kevin Ollie is buidling the Huskies back into a contender again after the masterful job Jim Calhoun did in his tenure at the Connecticut school. See More

Basketball Play - Arizona DHO/Flare

Arizona DHO/Flare

Dana Beszczynski 03/14/2014

The Arizona Wildcats ran this play in their victory against the Oregon Ducks. Executing the DHO out of Transition, the Wildcats use good ball & player movement to create multiple scoring opportunities. The exchange at the end of the play between Johnson & Tarczewski is a credit to how well coached Sean Miller's team is, being able to quickly read the defense and take advantage of what is given.
