This is a baseline out of bounds play that I ran this season with my high school team. Initially when I drew up this action I invisioned utilizing the ending of the play to get 5 a lay-up. But the option that was usually open was 3 cutting to the wing for a shot. 5 was rarely open for 2 reasons; one was a lack of patience and two being that they would forget to run this option. Last night trailing the Golden State Warriors in overtime of Game 3 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals, the San Antonio Spurs ran this beautiful Sideline Out of Bounds play to get Danny Green an open 3-pointer. Coach Popovich did a tremendous job with the spacing of his personnel on the floor with this action. First, by slipping Tim Duncan to the rim, it forced the weak side defenders to help in the ane a little more. Secondly, with the defense already shifted in the lane, as Leonard sprinted out into the pick the Warriors' defense helped high which opened up a driving lane for Ginobili. With the defense focused on Duncan and Ginobili this opened up the flare in the corner for the knock down 3-pointer. See More

This is the play the Miami Heat ran last night to Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals versus the Indiana Pacers. The sports world and social media are a buzz about this play mostly because of Hibbert sitting out and George over playing. But let's give credit to Eric Spoelstra. He ran this same exact play at the end of the 4th quarter to get Ray Allen a game winning 3-pointer that came up short.
