Mark Gottfried frequented this half-court offense set while the head coach at the University of Alabama. The main reason this play was so successful was because Gottfried had a 5 man in 6'9" 255 lb Richard Hendrix. Hendrix was a force inside and almost impossible to move off the block. Last night the Chicago Bull ran this quick hitter post action to start the 4th quarter versus the Washington Wizards. Noah did a great job selling this play dribbling at the pin-down before quickly turning to feed Gibson ducking in. Noah's quick dribble right put X4 a step off Gibson to allow the easy post. See More

John Pelphrey ran this Carolina backscreen action while the head coach of the University of Arkansas. What I love about this play is by have 2 set the backscreen to 4, a lack of communication will result in one of three outcomes: 1. Lob to 4 2. 2 will be open as X2 helped because X4 was nailed on the backscreen 3. X5 is forced to help on 2 and 5 can flash for an elbow jumper or iso-drive to the rim. If none of those options are available the pick & roll finishes up the play. With the floor spread and the pick so close to the baseline it will be difficult to help on the roll of 5 if X5 is caught helping X2. See More

Syracuse than this pock & roll pin-down action in the 2013 Men's Final Four. If 4 isn't able to catch & shoot or create on the dribble, the play will continue as 3 uses the screen from 5. 4 has the option to hit 3 coming off the screen or look to feed 5 sealing in the post. Last night the Florida Gators ran this zone offense play which lead to Freshman Chris Walker’s first points in a Gator uniform. If you watch Florida enough, you know that Billy Donovan frequently runs pick & rolls versus a zone to get two defenders guarding one and put the defense in compromising situations. This overloaded action does just that. What makes this play especially hard to guard is Florida had two point guards on the Florida making them extra dangerous on the dribble. As Kasey Hill came off the pick, not only did he have the options shown below, but he also had a throwback option to their lethal 3-point threat Michael Frazier II. UCF head coach Donnie Jones drew up this play at the end of their game versus Rutgers Wednesday night to give them the lead, and ultimately the win. Jones put the ball in the hands of his best player Isaiah Sykes (2) to create off the ball screen and Sykes did just that. He exploded off the pick & roll and the defense became so occupied by the double screen action, Sykes was able to get to the rim for an uncontested lay-up. See More

The Florida Gators ran this pick & roll in their win over South Carolina on Tuesday night. Coach Donovan really stresses the importance of timing in his offense and drills it on a daily basis; the timing on this play was flawless. As 1 (Wilbekin) came off the 2nd pick from 5 (Young), the roll was so open because Florida’s Frazier (3) was on a shooting tear and X3 did not help into the lane enough on Young. See More

The Iowa Hawkeyes frequented this play in their 2014 First Four game vs Tennessee. As 2 came off the pick, naturally X3 sat in help to prevent an easy drive and the second that X3 lost contact with 3, 3 shot backdoor for a lay-up. See More

Watching the play develop I was sure they would get the ball to 3 curling into the lane, but they decided to wait and use the flare for 2. The shot was off target but ASU secured the offensive rebound to tie the game with two free-throws. See More

Frequenting their baseline series all game, Florida head coach Billy Donovan ran this tweak to the set adding in a double side pick & roll. This line-up for Florida is extremely versatile because they essentially have three point guards on the floor, one being 6'8" (4) Dorian Finney-Smith, in addition to (2) Hill and 1 (Wilbekin). As 1 (Wilbekin) came off the double pick & roll he had multiple options of attack: 1. Attack the rim or pull-up 2. Drop down pass to Young (5) rolling. 3. 2 and 3 spotting up on the weak side wing 4. Yesterday's 1st round Playoffs Game 1 between the Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors was an interesting one. For the majority of the 2nd-half, the Raptors PA announcer was the shot clock as the clocks were malfunctioning on both ends of the floor. Jason Kidd drew up the play below with having 3.7 seconds in mind. However, as the Nets broke their timeout, they were informed there was only 2.7 on the shot clock (stop watch). Either way time did not end up being a factor as Pierce was able to break free for this catch & shoot to increase the Nets' lead. See More

Late in game 4 of the 2014 Playoffs the Chicago Bulls were in need of a score as they trailed the Washington Wizards. Tom Thibodeau drew up this sideline out of bounds play in a timeout which resulted in a mid-range jumper from Carlos Boozer.
