Chris Collins has done a tremendous job since his arrival at Northwestern, leading them this year to their 1st ever NCAA Tournament appearance. His Offense has been getting rave reviews this year from everyone who has the chance to watch his Team. This Dribble Weave action sets up to what looks like a double stagger action for Lindsey, but ends up with Lindsey finishing the play on the opposite side of the court with the dribble penetration. Law does a great job coming back off the single screen action when Lindsey cuts backdoor on the baseline. This simple set does not look like anything at first look, but what makes this isolation action so effective is the open space Thomas has to attack the basket off the back door cut from Mackenzie. The defense all goes to one side giving Thomas the chance to attack the paint, drop-off to the center or kick-out for the open 3 pt shot if the defense sags in. See More

West Virigina likes to run this action throughout the game especially with the luxury of having Adrian a true "stretch" 4 in the game. Carter (PG) has the option of either taking the UCLA screen or stepping back for a shot or drive. 2 (SG) Miles Jr. can then curl off the step out screen from Adrian and has the option to immediately come back and screen-the-screener (option in this set as well). The exchange on the baseline makes the defense turn their heads to guard and with Ahmad (SF) a strong presence also on the block, Coach Bob Huggins set play gets a lot out of their personnel. West Virigina has gone to a flex cut, duck-in this year on the baseline which is very effective. When the Flex action doesn't work, the post players interchange and that Macon (C) and Adrian (PF) both good shooters are from mid-range, the elbow jumper off the wing pass is always a good option. The St. Mary's Gaels do a very good job running their half court sets, with good patience, spacing, and ball movement, they make the defense really pay close attention especially off the ball. This set out of a Horns, is very popular at the European level right now and the first action gives you a chance for a quick hitter off the back door cut. St. Mary's has Jock Landale who can pop or roll out of the SPNR action which makes him a double threat and can open up the driving lanes for the guards too get in the paint and cause rotations, which then leads to kick-outs for their proficient shooting from behind the arc. The Gators used this set out of a timeout in the 1st half against Virginia in Round 2 of the NCAA Tournament. The multiple ball screen action is very tough to defend and yields an open 3 pt shot to Robinson who broke out in Game 1 of the Tournament for Florida. This set comes from last night's Rockets-Heat game. It is a pick-and-roll set out of a Horns look that takes advantage of Miami's trapping pick-and-roll defense. James Harden was swallowed up by this defensive scheme during the NBA Finals but he is very patient here, keeping his dribble alive at a slow pace to draw both Bosh and Wade for just long enough to open up space on the wing for Carlos Deflino, who is left up by Shane Battier because Battier is forced to help on the roll in Miami's scheme, to get a wide open shot. The Los Angeles Lakers have had their ups-and-downs since Mike D'Antoni was named their new head coach, which was expected with Steve Nash being out, but the one consistent theme with the offense so far has been how well Kobe Bryant is working out of the pick-and-roll. Forget scoring, which Bryant is doing at an elite level even in his 17th season, Kobe, whose reputation as a gunner has sullied his beautiful passing ability, is facilitating the offense extremely well in the abscene of Nash. On this play we can see how Kobe makes a great read to find a wide open shooters as well as how much attention Dwight Howard draws onn the pick-and-roll. This is the kind of play that D'Antoni is thinking about when he considers starting Antawn Jamison over Pau Gasol for spacing purposes. See More

The majority of Joe Johnson's clutch shots for the Nets this season have come on the infamous ISO-Joe plays that made Johnson's Atlanta Hawks' teams a bit of an eye sore on offense. To Johnson's credit, he's been remarkably efficient in one-on-one situations late in games this year, and he even hit the game-winner later in this game on an isolation possession. But down three with 6.7 seconds left in the game against the Milwaukee Bucks the other night, P.J. Carlesimo went away from ISO ball and drew up a beautiful elevator screen sequence to get Johnson a wide open look at a three from the top of the key. Unphased by the moment, Johnson executed his cut perfectly and he got good screens from his teammates, allowing him to tie things up and send the game to overtime. Video of this play. See More

Despite their recent woes, the Golden State Warriors still rank as a top 10 offensive team in basketball, which is impressive given the amount of time they have spent without center Andrew Bogut this season. Bogut is a versatile offensive option that can score on the block and facilitate from the post or the elbow, which makes for some great offensive chemistry with David Lee, Golden State's other multi-skilled big man. The Warriors can also use Bogut as a way to create offense for their potent guards - Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
