This time the stagger is on the strong side, leaving a side of the floor isolated for a drive. This play can be run either to the right or the left. Olympiacos ran this set with less than two minutes left in the first half of their Euroleague semi final win over CSKA. It is a relatively simple play, with the guards looping to set up a side ball screen, but the corner drift and flare from 4 to 1 kept the weak side defense occupied to free up the roll man. 2 could have passed to 3 in the corner, 1 coming off the flare, 4 slipping a screen, 4 stepping out after setting the screen, or 5 could have popped after setting the screen. Opening play by OKC in the 4th quarter of their 103-97 game 4 loss to Memphis. An effective screen by Fisher frees Durant up to catch the ball. A strong side drive by Durant draws three defenders and he passes to an open Martin in the corner. As you can see x3 plays inside Collison because x5 rotates to stop the drive. Duncan set a great screen to free Manu up, but Leonard was unable to make the pass. Duncan flashed to the ball and shot a contested three but if Leonard hit Manu, Manu would have had great momentum driving to the hoop for the game winner. See More

Saw Detlef Schrempf demo this on Youtube. It's one of my favorite shooting drills near the basket because it requires good footwork. If a player knows how to position their body and use their feet to set up a drop step, hook, and up and under they should be able to score near the basket. After catching and drop stepping, player 1 continues curling around the cone and catching a pass. The next shot is a catch and shoot hook. The third shot is and up and under. The fourth shot is if a player is denied a pass in the post they spins away from the defense for the lob pass. After getting the footwork down without defense then dummy defense should be applied. The defense should over play to allow the offense player to get a feel for the reads. As an offensive players skill and comfort level increases with the dummy defense, then the defense should increase their intensity. See More

This drill causes the offense to make reads or create openings while at a slight disadvantage of dribble two balls. Play shown by Jeff Van Gundy. He got this from Scott Skiles who ran it with the Bulls with Ben Gordan as the 2. Instead of going 1-4 low at the end of quarters the down screen would start at 7 seconds. Depending on the coverage 2 can pull up for a jump shot or drive for a finish at the rim. 2 can drive and kick to 1. 4 and 5 can roll and replace. 5 can pop and 2 can use the throwback pass. 2 can also pass to 4 if 4's defender helps on the drive. The Heat ran this play in the 3rd quarter of their game 5 win over the Pacers. The actions is very similar to the play posted here http://www.fastmodelsports.com/library/basketball/fastdraw/2187/play-Elbow-Weak-Stagger The difference is instead of 4 screening 1 into a 2 man game with 3, 4 turns back to set the ball screen. Haslem's man was zoning the middle of the lane to protect a back door cut, a hard curl, or a slip. By having Haslem set the screen there was no type of help coverage on the ball screen and James had a wide open 17 ft. jump shot. See More
