Basketball Play - "5"

"5"

Dana Beszczynski 04/07/2013

Andy Endfield has a lot of coaching influences, one of them being Rick Pitino and not only does he do a good job with their match-up zone and changing defensive looks, but also on the offense end being able to open the floor and use spacing properly to get players good looks to score. Here is a good high PNR action looking to hit the post man rolling in the lane See More

Basketball Play - VCU Weave

VCU Weave

Dana Beszczynski 11/19/2013

VCU Head Coach Shaka Smart was one of the hottest coaching names in the off-season, but showed his true loyalty to the program that he has built into a yearly power. This year Smart returns a line-up with experience and their offense is enjoyable and entertaining to watch. This Weave action really does a good job using the flare screen, good cutting actions, and a ball screen at the end to set-up a wide open 3 pt shot in the corner. VCU's quickness at the guard positions gives defenses nightmares with their ability to breakdown 1 v 1 off the dribble. See More

Basketball Play - UVA Motion

UVA Motion

Dana Beszczynski 03/31/2014

Tony Bennett is a rising star in the ranks of DI Coach's. The Cavaliers get a lot of credit for their number ranked defense, but their offense is like a machine running smoothly throughout the 40:00 of action. This Motion Offense utilizes the flare screen to keep the wheel moving as the Cavs look for either an open shooter or take advantage of penetration opportunities. The Cavaliers have it rolling and next up is Michigan State in the Sweet 16!! See More

Basketball Play - Richard Pitino Motion Set

Richard Pitino Motion Set

Dana Beszczynski 04/16/2014

Richard Pitino took the University of Minnesota to the NIT Final where he was matched up against one of the true coaching legends of the game, SMU's Larry Brown. Brown was looking to be the first coach to win an NBA, NCAA, and NIT Championship. This is a great Motion Set vs a M2M defense incorporating the use of the down screen, back screen, and middle ball screen. The lob option off the back screen is a quick hit action and an effective swing of the ball off the ball screen can catch the defense opening up a possible post pass. See More

Basketball Play - ISU Diamond

ISU Diamond

Dana Beszczynski 05/30/2014

Fred Hoiberg's name has come up in several off-season NBA Coaching openings, showing the amount of respect he has at the highest levels. Hoiberg's experience in the NBA shows in the way Iowa State executes and runs their offensive sets. Everything is predicated on good spacing & player movement. Hoiberg gives his players the ability to create 1 v 1 situations and use their skills to breakdown the defense which in turn creates opportunities for everyone else on kick-out passes. This very easy to run Diamond play can be run for any one of your players to create an isolation situation. See More

Basketball Play - "Huskies"

"Huskies"

Dana Beszczynski 11/14/2015

This was the opening play of last nights game between the Washington Huskies and Texas Longhorns which was played in Shanghai, China at the Mercedes Benz Arena. The game marked the beginning of the Shaka Smart era at Texas. Smart had previously coached from 2009-20015 at VCU compiling an overall record of 163-56 and included in that impressive record was a trip to the Final 4. Texas is hoping for big things under Smart not only this year, but in the years to come. Washington is coached by Lorenzo Romar entering his 14th season at the helm with a record of 270-159. The last few years have been down ones for the Huskies and Romar has a young team this year entering the PAC 12 season, but it promises to be exciting. This opening play started in a "Stack" low with the wings sprinting out to the wings and the posts men flashing high to the elbow. The play was designed hoping the 5 man's defender would overplay the flash enabling in this case Marquese Chriss to release to the ring for the lob pass from Andrew Andrews the Washington PG. The pass came up short, but it was an exciting way to start the game and a play which you can use to surprise your opponents at the start of a game! See More

Basketball Play - Scott Drew

Scott Drew

Dana Beszczynski 12/09/2015

On Aug. 22, 2003, Scott Drew assumed Baylor's head coaching position and took over one of college basketball's most daunting rebuilding projects ever. Eleven years later, he became the program's all-time wins leader. From 2007-15, Baylor rose to national prominence with Drew leading the team to seven 20-win seasons, seven postseason appearances, the Big 12's first NIT championship, Baylor's first postseason tournament title in its 107-year history, and a Big 12-best and school-record 17 postseason wins. This years Baylor team is extremely athletic and can interchange positions in their sets. This is a very good easy to run Motion set the Bears use against Man-to-Man defenses. It incorporates DHO action, SPNR, opportunities for quick hitting backdoor actions, and post.-up scenarios. See More

Dana Beszczynski 01/11/2016

Lon Kruger has taken 5 different teams to the NCAA Tournament during his coaching career and he is coming off perhaps one of the most memorable games in NCAA history last weekend with the 3 OT thriller against Kansas. This years Sooners team is exciting to watch and this Dribble Weave action creates good spacing and multiple shot options off the flat screen or SPNR action depending on what you choose to use. Basketball Play - Utah Post-Up Action

Utah Post-Up Action

Dana Beszczynski 01/25/2016

Having had the privilege of coaching against Jakob Poeltl here in Austria on many occasions, it has been enjoyable following his career to this point at Utah. Larry Krystkowiak is entering his 5th season at Utah and here is a post-up action run for Jakob Poeltl who has skyrocketed to the top of many NBA scouts lists for his ability to run the floor, soft hands, finishing ability, and shot blocking prowess. The Utes do a very good job moving the ball and getting Poeltl touches where he can use his skills to put the ball in the basket. Here is one of those sets. See More

Basketball Play - Stanford Flex Stagger Action

Stanford Flex Stagger Action

Dana Beszczynski 01/25/2016

Stanford Head Coach Johnny Dawkins runs a nice little flex cut down screen action looking to get the talented Roscoe Allen a shot off a screen-the-screener action. This is a nice set play to run especially if the defense is switching. You will either get a mismatch at the TOK with your guard or a possible slip action off the big-big screen on the baseline. Basketball Play - Butler End of Game BOB

Butler End of Game BOB

Dana Beszczynski 12/21/2016

This was the late game BOB play Coach Holtman used to guide Butler to what many perceived as an upset of the Indiana Hoosiers last Saturday night. But, the Bulldogs are no stranger to knocking off big time programs. This perfectly designed BOB situation uses the decoy screen for the 5 man who comes across the lane clearing the defense out and the 4 man uses good timing to move towards 3 before slipping hard catching the Indiana defender looking at the 3 man. 1 makes the perfect pass for the dunk in the lane and a big play for the Butler Bulldogs in their knocking off the Indiana Hoosiers! Basketball Play - Lady Bruins Back Cut Post Option

Lady Bruins Back Cut Post Option

Dana Beszczynski 01/10/2017

This play was run by Cori Close and her UCLA Lady Bruins on Sunday night in their showdown with the Washington Lady Huskies. The Pac12 features one of the best levels of Women's Basketball and has the premier player in Kelsey Plum from Washington. This play starts with a DHO on the wing (if the PG reads the defense, she can keep the ball and attack the paint to the open side). A wide pin down on the weak side brings the 2 guard to the 3 pt line for a possible early catch & shoot 3 pointer if she's open. The Lady Bruins are a very disciplined team going through their options in this set. The Post at the FT line sets a back screen for a possible back door pass while on the weak side a down screen for the PG yields either a 3 point shot or dump in to the Post. After screening, the screener pops to the wing, receives the throwback pass and the option to post your 3 presents itself. If you're not watching Women's basketball on the West Coast, you should be!!
