Basketball Play - Continuous Shooting

Continuous Shooting

FastModel Sports 01/27/2015

This drill is all about getting shots up. Split your team into two groups at separate baskets, each side with four balls. Start with one line at the top of the key and another on the baseline. Each line has two balls. The player on the baseline starts by curling to the wing 10-15 feet from the basket. They receive a pass from the first player in the other line and proceed to take a jump shot and get their own rebound. Once a player makes the pass they curl to the wing for their own shot, receiving a pass from the next player in the opposite line. Each player gets their own rebound and returns to the opposite line from where they started. Each player gets two shots at each shooting position (left wing, top of the key, right wing) before the lines move to the next position. The drill is completed when the players shoot from each position (left wing, top of the key, right wing) two times. The teams at each basket are competing for the most makes…losing team runs. Basketball Play - Drill: Interior Touch Series

Drill: Interior Touch Series

Matt Hackenberg 12/07/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we go through a series of drills we used with our post players during our guard/post breakdown portion of practice. We believed that using these basic drills on a regular basis would improve the footwork and touch of our interior players. We used medicine balls instead of basketballs while we filmed this, but that was not a regular occurrence. Iowa Hawkeyes WBB - Post Seal ISO

Aaron Schuck 02/12/2021

Last season Iowa had a top overall offense in the half court from an anlytics standpoint. A big reason why was they were 2nd in the nation in post play 1.161 PPP. Their posts have great footwork which gets them angles to score. They also make sure to get them touches with sets like this. *New customers use code SAVE10 for 10% OFF Draw/Scout* See More

Stagger Shooting (Phase A)

Randy Sherman 05/02/2019

This Phase A Stagger Shooting drill can serve as a breakdown drill for Motion Strong. In Phase A drills the focus is on introduction and examination of technique. In this drill we are working on techniques such as setting up the screen, the footwork into the catch and shooting mechanics. There is a Dr Dish option in the catch-and-shoot phase of this drill as well. The goal is to progress to other phases of drilling which offer decisions for the offensive player as soon as possible. Basketball Play - Communication Drill: One More Drive & Kick Shooting

Communication Drill: One More Drive & Kick Shooting

Matt Wheeler 11/19/2018

This drill provides an opportunity to work on multiple skills in one setting: closeouts, footwork, attacking the paint, passing and communicaiton. 1 starts things off by passing to the 2 and finishes with a close out repetition. The three perimeter players (2,3 & 4) have their knees bent and hands up ready to step into the pass, working on their shot preparation footwork. 2 is focusing on getting two feet in the paint on the drive before passing to 3. As the ball is in the air to 3, 4 is saying "One More," which signals 3 to immediately swing the ball to 4 upon receiving it. The communication focus of this drill is in saying "One More" as the ball is in the air so the ball can be moved quickly for the open shot. Players should also communicate their teammates names as they are passing the ball to them. Basketball Play - Sundance Moves on the Move

Sundance Moves on the Move

Joel Hueser 07/09/2018

Blog Post: Scoring Made Simple - 3 Easy and Effective Shots to Practice Moves on the Move In order to break down a defender on the move, we encourage all players to develop a go-to move and counter move. Consider the following points as well: 1. Maintain a speed of 80 mph (80%). 2. Attack the defense right between their eyes. Go right at them! 3. Make your move a stride or two away and attack the defender’s outside shoulder at 100 mph (full speed). 4. Finally, close the gap once you get by them. 5. Be sure to practice these moves on both sides of the floor!!! Inside-Out Move If you are dribbling with your right hand, step laterally (to the left) with your inside foot and then return to the outside as quickly as possible. Do not change hands with the dribble. However, learn to sell the defender with an inside-out dribble to compliment your inside-out footwork. Master this from both sides. Crossover Move If you are dribbling with your right hand, plant your right foot and quickly cross the ball over to your left hand. When you get by the defender, keep a very low dribble and close the gap. Learn to do this tight and compact with both hands. Hesitation Move Dribble right at the defender, then slow down with a quiet stutter and momentarily begin to rise up, as soon as the defender freezes or becomes off balance, explode past him. Push the ball out in front with a low dribble. Between the Legs Move Same as the crossover, but dribble the ball between your legs. Create Without over dribbling, challenge your creativity on the move. This could be around the back or a combo of other moves. Don't be afraid to make a mistake! This is a great drill for getting a ton of ball handling reps. This works stationary ball handling, handle on the move, first step off the dribble, and change of pace. It is also a great conditioner and footwork drill and can be varied in many different ways based upon the creativity of the coach. Click for more #PlayerDevelopment content! See More

Basketball Play - Circle Shooting Jumpstops

Circle Shooting Jumpstops

Joel Hueser 07/02/2018

Circle Shooting Jumpstops is the perfect drill to teach and emphasize the two-foot jumpstop and finishing strong in the paint. We like to piggy-back this drill with Circle Shooting. It is slightly more advanced, but very complimentary in building great footwork. Blog Post: Scoring Made Simple - 3 Easy and Effective Shots to Practice See More
