The Miami Heat ran this two plays back to back last in during Game 4 of the NBA Finals versus the San Antonio Spurs. A trend in the NBA that I love and many coaches don't follow (which I don't understand why) is running plays that work in succession. If a play works well once, why not try it again and make your opponent guard it? That is what the Miami Heat did last night, Option 1 was a quick pin down for Ray Allen which led to an easy floater in the lane. The very next possession down the court the Heat ran the same action but the Spurs did a much better job defending and the Heat had to deviate to a different play. See More

At Fort Myers High School we run the Read and React Offense from Better Basketball. If you are not familiar with the offense it consists of five spots that should always be filled. If your defenders feet are above the three point line (Read Line) and you are one pass away we tell our players to immediately cut back door. With that in mind this morning I put a couple of our guys through a grueling session of finishing moves which incorporates this concept. With the defense in helpside position (especially in high school in college where defensive 3 seconds is not a rule), this is a great action if you have bigger guards to duck and seal hard in the middle of the lane for a quick turn and finish.
