Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavaliers - Point Flares (vs switching)

Cleveland Cavaliers - Point Flares (vs switching)

Doug Brotherton 05/22/2018

In Games 1 and 2 of the 2018 Eastern Conference Finals, the Boston Celtics got a lot of credit for their smooth switches defensively. In games 3 and 4, the Cleveland Cavaliers countered with some basic actions to pick on the switching defense. Their most effective action was their "Point Flares," with LeBron James as the passer from the middle of the floor. The corner to wing flare allows the screener to seal and cut to the rim, for a pass over the top. This set gave the Celtics fits, resulting in multiple layups for Cleveland. Basketball Play - Boston Celtics - Wedge Step

Boston Celtics - Wedge Step

KJ Smith 05/16/2018

Guard sets a cross screen on the ball screener's defender to prevent a hard hedge or trap by the defense. Following the balls creen and hit ahead pass, a step up screen for the guard is set to attack downhill. This is a great set that uses the defenses help side positioning against them. This is a simple and quick SLOB set from GSW. Play is designed to get Durant or Green into a high pick and roll. The defense can't afford to help off shooters, so Durant/Green will look to attack the switch or the roll defender. Golden State Warriors - Drag Open

Austin Anderson 05/14/2018

Golden State is efficient, and its offense has interchangeable parts as 1-4 can bring the ball up the court at any given time. With the firepower the Warriors possess, defenses have to sprint back and get matched up ASAP. They utilize quick opportunities with drag screens and wing pin downs. If they don't get an open look, Durant, Curry, or Thompson will back it out and just play. Basketball Play - Boston Celtics - Kickahead 3 Down

Boston Celtics - Kickahead 3 Down

Austin Anderson 05/09/2018

Boston Celtics Catch/Shoot Set: Perimeter players can fill ANY spot. The kickahead gets the defense moving early and the quick DHO may catch it off guard. Boston utilizes the stagger away option and players like Smart, Tatum, Brown, and even Rozier can fill to the top or curl for lay ups. IF they fill to the top and dont a have a shot/drive opportunity, they will play a flash/split game with Al Horford and whoever gave them the ball. See More
