Basketball Play - Hammer

Hammer

Luke Riegel 06/23/2014

This action is a great ATO option, especially if you have a good shooting 2 man and a 3 man that can beat his defender and attack off the bounce. The purpose of the action is to get the defense to overreact to the dribble penetration towards the baseline, while opening up 3-point shot opportunities for your guards (2 or 1) on the perimeter. Basketball Play - Duke

Duke

Andrew Lacey 08/10/2014

Here is a nice set for you to use after a timeout, late game situation and/or beginning of half. There are a variety of screens set in this set to create some possible mismatches on switches and the double screen for the post is key here. See More

Basketball Play - Brooklyn Nets Horns Action

Brooklyn Nets Horns Action

Brandon Mullis 04/21/2014

Among the many things the Brooklyn Nets did well in their Game 1 victory over the Toronto Raptors was this great quick hitter set dialed up by Coach Jason Kidd in the waning moments of the 2nd quarter. With 1:13 on the clock in the 2nd, the Nets were able to get a wide open lay-up (Option 1) to increase their lead to 5 points. I added in the 3rd Option to create another scoring opportunity. Basketball Play - Full Court Inbounds Play, Dead Ball

Full Court Inbounds Play, Dead Ball

Randy Brown 01/04/2013

This play features a sure-fire way to get the ball to your best free throw shooter when handling full court pressure on a dead ball situation. 4 and 5 cut hard and call for the ball as decoys. 3 steps to the ball to set up his cut down the floor, using back screen by 1. On 3's cut deep, 1 cut to get open and catch the inbounds pass from 2. The ultimate goal is to get the ball to 1 so he can get fouled, but many times 3 is wide open sprinting down the floor for a sure lay up. See More

Basketball Play - Flat

Flat

Kyle Gilreath 05/29/2013

This is a baseline out of bounds play that I ran for my Junior Varsity squad this past season. I initially drew it up figuring it would work well versus man defense. However, as the season progressed, I found that this play worked almost every time against a zone (especially 2-3) zone. It takes some time to teach younger players how to screen in different situations but my 5's become great at sealing under the rim and almost always resulted in a lay-up. See More

Basketball Play - 5 on 4 to 5 on 5 Transition

5 on 4 to 5 on 5 Transition

Kyle Gilreath 12/30/2013

This is another drill that I got from watching Bellarmine University practice last week. This is a great drill because it not only works on scramble situations having 4 players defend 5 in the half-court, but it also forces the offense (new defense) to sprint back after change of possession to prevent any easy lay-ups. After making your one transition stop after a made shot or the defense secures the rebound and repeat the drill the other way. Make sure you switch the offense and defensive teams who must scramble each time and rotate the players that are back. Do this drill for time or until a team reaches a pre-set point total. See More

Basketball Play - 1-Hand Pass Follow Pick & Roll

1-Hand Pass Follow Pick & Roll

Kyle Gilreath 07/19/2013

Teaching your players to effectively and efficiently pass with 1 hand will improve skills and power and become overall better passers. The key to this drill is teaching both passers how to catch the ball and obsorb the force into your hand like a spring and fire the pass back from the shoulder area. When setting the pick & roll/pop many coaches force their players to roll opening their chest up so they never turn their back to the ball. I like to give my players the option to roll either way depending on their comfort level. (turning over their low shoulder or opening up). I personally prefer the quick turn (instead of opening to the ball) because it is quicker and the screener can create more space more efficiently. If they choose to turn over their low shoulder make sure they do it quickly and snap their head around first to locate the ball. Today I had each player make 3 shots from each spot/move and then repeated the drill on the right side. See More

3 on 3 Drill (1 of 4)

null null 10/25/2013

This is a series of 3 on 3 actions we work on in practice. Coaches can decide how they want to defend the pass and screen away, pass and basket cut, pass cut and ball screen, and flare screens. We use this drill to prepare for teams that run these actions. See More

Basketball Play - Scissors (dribble drive look)

Scissors (dribble drive look)

null null 08/07/2013

This is a common play in our area of Northwest Ohio that I'm sure is used in college and pro's. This play is great because it is designed to for a high post entry, and a "scissor" cut with 2 guards. You can get good looks for 3's off the scissor cut and double screen. This play also offers a chance to enter to the post player with a double screen and post entry, or the big can fake handoff to both players, and have a high post isolation. See More
