Basketball Play - Zone Entry - Pinch & Pinch Opposite

Zone Entry - Pinch & Pinch Opposite

Brian Shea 01/11/2022

We use "PINCH" as an entry against any zone look. (2-3/ 1-2-2 /3-2). The play is the run the same way, on either side. Forwards will screen in hard on the top players in the zone defense. As this happens, both shooters come out of the corner and the PG chooses a side. With the top defender in the zone screened in, the pass to the wing should force the bottom forward to come out to play the pass or the guard will have an open look at the basket. In REGULAR PINCH, as soon as the ball hits a wing, the strong side forward will dive to the basket down the laneline. The weakside forward will flash behind to the elbow. In PINCH OPPOSITE, as soon as the ball hits a wing, the opposite forward will dive to the strongside short corner , the strong side forward will stay in the middle. See More

Basketball Play - Horns Ball Screen - Roll/Pop Into Duck & Pins

Horns Ball Screen - Roll/Pop Into Duck & Pins

Matt Hackenberg 01/06/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of the horns alignment. The horns ball screen, rolling and popping, creates great 4 around 1 spacing for the high/low. I like the flow of the play after the high/low look, using the DHO to set up action on both sides. I would bet that at least one of the sides isn't defended properly after the high/low action. Basketball Play - Central Arkansas - Circle Motion Offense: "Stay"

Central Arkansas - Circle Motion Offense: "Stay"

Matt Hackenberg 01/06/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of the Circle Motion Offense. This set play comes from Central Arkansas, and has a post up option. The set stays true the circle motion action, except looks for a post up when the offensive player would normally be filling out to the corner. The ball stays on the same side while the Circle action is taking place instead of being reversed. Basketball Play - Central Arkansas - Circle Motion: Corner Backdoor

Central Arkansas - Circle Motion: Corner Backdoor

Matt Hackenberg 01/05/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of the Circle Motion Offense. This set play comes from Central Arkansas, and has a misdirection backdoor option. I like this action sprinkled in here and there to catch the defense off guard. The more often you try to run this set, the less often it will work successfully. Basketball Play - Set Play: Misdirection Backdoor ATO

Set Play: Misdirection Backdoor ATO

Matt Hackenberg 01/05/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at misdirection backdoor set that is best used as an ATO. I love the unassuming nature of the play. If used in moderation, this set can score a quick and easy two points for your team. Basketball Play - Slice Stagger Wheel Clear

Slice Stagger Wheel Clear

Matt Hackenberg 12/31/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a set play to create a driving lane, but there are plenty of options before the driving lane. You can score on the back screen, the stagger screen, or even the second stagger screen. Many options, but if none of those hit, you have the clear out to explore. Push Zip Iverson Series - Blind Pig

Matt Hackenberg 12/31/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a series of plays from the push zip Iverson movement series. The featured action in the video is the blind pig backdoor. This is a clever action, and with good timing it can be very tough to defend. Basketball Play - Zone Set: Double Screen Out Lob

Zone Set: Double Screen Out Lob

Matt Hackenberg 12/25/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a set to attack a zone. This works specifically against a 2-3 zone, screening out the top defenders to create a pocket for the point guard to drive into. Once face to face with x5, 1 can either shoot the floater or throw the lob to 5. Cleveland Cavaliers - Triangle Twist BLOB

Tony Miller 12/22/2021

Watch the video below as Coach Tony Miller uses FastDraw, the #1 play diagramming program for basketball coaches, to break down this BLOB design from the Cleveland Cavaliers and coach J.B. Bickerstaff. This STS action seems like it would be for 2, but is actually for 4. Yet if the defense drifts to 4, 2 will be wide open for a layup. Send to FastDraw using the button above. Miami Heat - Hammer Lay Up

Tony Miller 12/18/2021

Watch the video below as Coach Tony Miller uses FastDraw, the #1 play diagramming program for basketball coaches, to break down this ATO design from the Miami Heat under head coach Erik Spoelstra. Help side defenders can’t not get caught watching the ball as the double step up ball screen occurs on the strong side, leaving 2 a chance to slip to the rim. Send to FastDraw using the button above. Basketball Play - Blind Pig Backdoor SLOB

Blind Pig Backdoor SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/16/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a SLOB to burn aggressive defense on a blind pig backdoor. This play is sexy when executed properly, but it is better mixed in with other options out of the same set up, instead of being a stand alone set play in your playbook. Video below. Basketball Play - Zip Slot Double Flare SLOB

Zip Slot Double Flare SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/16/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a SLOB that ends in a double flare screen. I think it's an interesting action, but maybe a set to save for use at the right time instead of using it often. I think the movement pattern has great felxibility to be paired with other options that look similar in flow, but don't use the double flare. Video below.
