Basketball Play - Triple Baseline Screen

Triple Baseline Screen

Matt Hackenberg 01/26/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for three-point shot. This set requires great timing. I like it for a short clock attempt to find a three. I also think it sets up for the misdirection backdoor set on the back side of the play off of a reverse pivot by the ball handler, although we don't see that in this clip below. Basketball Play - Misdirection DHO Gate

Misdirection DHO Gate

Matt Hackenberg 01/26/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for an elevater screen. The set starts in a 1-2-2 alignment and uses pin downs to get the wing entry, which is a DHO. The action starts flowing the other way while the gate screen is set up behind the play for the misdirection. Basketball Play - Horns Elbow Flare BS Veer Stagger

Horns Elbow Flare BS Veer Stagger

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a horns alignment. This is a pretty sexy set play with a lot going on. I do think this is more substance than style, and I believe some of the initial options in the set may present opportunities for good shots before the stagger screen. Basketball Play - Horns Veer Stagger

Horns Veer Stagger

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a horns alignment. The ball handler uses the horns ball screens and reads the strong side backdoor, or the shooter coming off the double veer on the back side. Basketball Play - Horns Elbow Stagger Handoff

Horns Elbow Stagger Handoff

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of the horns alignment. This action is simple and effective. It's hard for the defense to chase for that long through three screens. This set naturally leads into a two-person game if the shooter is not open off the hand off. Basketball Play - Slice Stagger STS (1-3-1)

Slice Stagger STS (1-3-1)

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 1-3-1 alignment. Some preliminary action sets up the screen the screener. The slice screen at the elbow is the first read, and hopefully draws some help defense, before the shooter comes off the stagger for a three-point look. Basketball Play - Box STS Stagger

Box STS Stagger

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a box alignment. I like how quickly the action unfolds. The court does seem a little smushed with the spacing on this set, so it might be wise to develop a plan to organize if the shot is not there because there isn't much space to create. Basketball Play - Euro Ball Screen Stagger Set

Euro Ball Screen Stagger Set

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of the Euro Ball Screen Offense. I like that the action replicates the continuity element of Euro Ball Screen, and then breaks off into the set. It's a great surprise to keep well-prepared opponents on their toes as they anticipate one thing, and then another thing happens. Basketball Play - Ball Screen Reject Screen In

Ball Screen Reject Screen In

Matt Hackenberg 01/19/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a princeton alignment. I think this set is good to generate a open look for a shooter a couple times a game. The more the set is used, the less likely it is to trick the defense. Basketball Play - Zone Entry - Pinch & Pinch Opposite

Zone Entry - Pinch & Pinch Opposite

Brian Shea 01/11/2022

We use "PINCH" as an entry against any zone look. (2-3/ 1-2-2 /3-2). The play is the run the same way, on either side. Forwards will screen in hard on the top players in the zone defense. As this happens, both shooters come out of the corner and the PG chooses a side. With the top defender in the zone screened in, the pass to the wing should force the bottom forward to come out to play the pass or the guard will have an open look at the basket. In REGULAR PINCH, as soon as the ball hits a wing, the strong side forward will dive to the basket down the laneline. The weakside forward will flash behind to the elbow. In PINCH OPPOSITE, as soon as the ball hits a wing, the opposite forward will dive to the strongside short corner , the strong side forward will stay in the middle. See More

Basketball Play - Horns Ball Screen - Roll/Pop Into Duck & Pins

Horns Ball Screen - Roll/Pop Into Duck & Pins

Matt Hackenberg 01/06/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of the horns alignment. The horns ball screen, rolling and popping, creates great 4 around 1 spacing for the high/low. I like the flow of the play after the high/low look, using the DHO to set up action on both sides. I would bet that at least one of the sides isn't defended properly after the high/low action.
