About Rory Hamilton

Rory Hamilton begins his third season as assistant coach in the Norman North High School boys program after serving as the head girls coach at Norman North for the last seven seasons.  After seven seasons, Coach Hamilton became the Norman North Girls basketball career leader in wins as his teams compiled a 110-68 record with one COAC conference championship and one 6A State runner-up finish.   Prior to Norman North, he served as the head girls basketball coach at Mount St. Mary Catholic High School in Oklahoma City, OK.  In seven years at MSM, he posted a 108-75 record and is the winningest coach in school history.  Coach Hamilton led the Rockets to three consecutive 4A state tournament appearances from 2012-2014, making the finals in 2013 and semifinals in 2014.

NC State filled these spots in transition and ran this action for a lay-up in the first half vs. South Carolina. Play begins with 1 passing the ball to the top of the key to the trailing 4. The 4 executes a DHO with the 3 while 5 follows the ball and 2 moves to the weak side block ready to set a block to block screen. The 3 comes off the DHO looking for the 5 going low off the block to block screen. If the 5 is not open low the 4 then sets a screen for the screen to free up the 2 for a potential 3pt shot on the wing or corner. See More

Initial Set-up: 3 out 2 in alignment Play is initiated by a pass to the wing On the catch by (3), the (1) cuts thru the middle of the zone while the (4) moves up to weak side elbow and the 2 moves to weak side block. The (3) then comes off a ball screen by the (5). The (3) looks for the point guard replacing the wing and then reads the bottom defender to make the "one more" pass to the corner to the shooter. Play begins with Floppy action as 3 screens for 2 and then exits out weak side. The 2 comes off of 5's pindown screen. The 2 immediately curls the 5's screen and looks to set a rip screen for the 4. The 5 pops towards the 3pt line after the 2 curls to create a catch on the wing and looks to beam it to the 4 coming low off the screen. If the 4 is not open on the initial rip screen, he continues his cut to the short corner and looks to create a catch. On 4's catch the grenade action takes place: the 5 screens in for 2 and the 4 dribbles at the screen for a DHO and screen to create a 3pt shot for the 2. See More

This is KU's go to play to overload and isolate a post player for a lay-up or dunk. The play begins in a diamond alignment and the 2 comes off the deep pindown by the 5. On 2's catch, the 4 sprints to set a fake ball screen to clear out the weak side help and pull his defender away from a potential double team. The guard then throws the lob pass over the top of the defense for a dunk or easy lay-in. The 3 and 1 must stay above the FT line to occupy the help defense on the weak side. See More

1-4 High alignment: Play starts with post player setting screen on the wing defender. The guard curls off the screen and fills to the corner. The post player then pops back for the entry pass. Once the post player catches, the opposite guard cuts high or low off the 5 players elbow screen. The point guard spaces away. The 5 player pops to the top of the key for ball reversal and quickly reverses the basketball to the wing. Screen the screener action for lay-up or shot at the top of the key. If the guard does not shoot the top of the key shot then post re-screens and gets right into roll/replace action. If the high-low is not there then the ball is reversed and then guard and post stagger away for a shooter. This play has been a Tom Izzo staple over the last 15 years. See More

The 3 immediately throw the ball into the post while the point guard 1 spaces away. Play is intiated with 5 screening for 1 to get a catch in the slot area. 5 then clears out to the weak side. 1 then dribbles towards the 4 who sets a back screen for the 2 and then pops to receive a catch. The 2 comes off back screen and sets a baseline rip screen for the 5 for a lay-up. See More

Play initiated with a dribble entry and zipper screen for the 2 to catch ball at the top of the key. On 2's catch, 5 sets pindown screen for the 3 while the 1 exits through to the strong side corner. On 3's catch, the 4 sets a flare screen for the 2 for a 3pt FG opportunity. If defense switches, 4 slips to the rim for potential lay-up. If the 2 doesn't have the shot, 4 sets a step-up screen and 2 drives baseline looking for the 4 man lob at the rim or the drift pass in the corner. The 3 follows to the wing as a safety in no options develop. See More

Stack Alignment: 3 rubs off 5 to clear out to wing. 5 pops just above elbow to create a catch. 1 sets a fake screen for 3 and slips to the rim to take advantage of the potential switch. 3 spaces up to create space for catch. On 3's catch, 5 sets a ghost screen and sprints to the rim look for the lob from the 3 while 1 receives a pin-in screen from the 4 for potential 3pt shot in the corner. The last option is the throwback option to the 2 whose defender must tag the 5 to take away the lob. The 3 should read the help and make the appropriate pass: lob, 3pt shot, throwback for 3pt. Initial Set-up: 3 out 2 in with posts at the blocks and guards on the wings. Play is initiated with a pass either wing, but often times it works best when you go away from your best jumping guard. On the pass to the wing, the weak side post (4) flashes to top of the key for the catch. The (1) and (3) space away to wing and corner. The (2) takes a couple of dribbles to shorten the pass to the (4) On the catch by the (4), the (5) sets a flare screen for the (2) and looks to slip the screen to the high post FT line. On the catch the 5 immediate looks to shoot, lob at the rim for the (3) or the (1) spacing away for the 3pt shot. See More

Initial Set-up: Slots and Wings with 5 at the nail. Play can be run to either side. Play is initiated with a pass to the wing. UCLA screen by the 5 for the 1. After setting the UCLA screen, the 5 pops out for ball reversal. On the 5's catch, it triggers actions on both side of the court. A back screen ball side, and a flare screen on the weakside. The 5 immediately runs a DHO with the 1 and then comes off a ball screen. The 1 should read the PNR along with the 2 and 4 staying spaced and ready to shoot on the weak side. See More
