Basketball Play - Triple

Triple

Alan Peel 09/03/2013

Triple is a play similar to Comeback and Double. The only difference is that we are looking to get a three-point shot for #2 coming off of a single-double. The double will be an elevator screen similar to Double. For more, check out my website www.coachpeelbasketball.com, sign up for a membership, and get your first 30 days free. See More

Basketball Play - Williams-HandOff

Williams-HandOff

Kyle Brown 10/29/2012

A blob action from Williams coach Mike Maker. His team does a great job of getting the inbounder shots off of action like this. The key is to have your second cutter seek out the inbounders defender on the tight curl and almost set a "moving screen" so that the man defending the cutter doesnt realize its a screen. See More

Basketball Play - Lion

Lion

Rich Czeslawski 08/02/2012

Lion is another of our 1-4 high plays. 1 can enter the ball to either wing, in this case the 2. 3 begins his cut across the lane. Throughout this play, 5 must work to get the ball so that his defender cannot help off of him. After 1's pass to 2, he screens down for the opposite post 4, who steps high to receive the return pass from 2. 3 continues through the lane and locates X2 as he prepares to set the back pick. 4 reverses the ball immediately to 1 who has broken out to the wing after holding his screen on X4. 3 screens for 2, who makes a flex cut to the block, looking for the layup. Again, depending on the game situation, we will take the layup if open unless we must have a three point shot. After 2 has cut through the lane, 5 and 4 set a staggered double screen for the screener, 3, who comes to the top of the key. 1 passes to 3 for the open three point shot. As with Charger, if x4 shows off the double screen, 4 should slip to the front of the rim. 2 should widen to the stripe if he does not receive the pass for a layup. See More

Basketball Play - UWM DHO Post Iso

UWM DHO Post Iso

Kevin Bruinsma 02/22/2015

This action is Milwaukee's favorite way to get the ball on the block to their 5 man. They can run this set out of transition or in a half court situation since the ball enters to a wing player thru a dribble handoff (DHO). Milwaukee has always had a 4 man that can shoot the ball, which makes the 4’s ball screen on the 2 man the first threat to this play. The 4 man pops to an empty side of the floor while the 1 cross screens for the 5 which occupies both defenders. If he can’t shoot the 3, he waits for 5 to come across the lane and throws it inside. It’s a fairly simple play to discuss, teach, & walk thru but difficult to defend especially if their 4 man is hitting shots. See More

Basketball Play - UNC Lob Play

UNC Lob Play

Adam Spinella 02/18/2015

Today's Play of the Day is one of the classic lob plays against a zone. Run by great programs like Cincinnati and North Carolina time and time again, the offense lulls the zone to sleep with perimeter passing, then strikes for a lob with two back screens on the bottom of the zone. That frees up the lob on the opposite side, and a well-thrown pass will break down the zone. See More

Basketball Play - Hit the post and move with perimeter defense

Hit the post and move with perimeter defense

Tom Kelsey 10/03/2012

Adding in the defender on perimeter and allowing post to set down screen creates a game like situation. Perimeter works on taking defense into the lane to set up coming off the screen. Post player wants to set the screen on a spot on the floor that allows a quick pivot and post up. Don't want to set the screen too low or too high, but wants to set the ball as close to the block as possible. Post players need to post up big and take up a lot of space. They want their back foot up and facing the passer. Both feet and chest need to be facing the passer. Also teach post players when posting they should be able to see the back of their hands while posting up on the block. Finger tips to the ceiling and palms up to improve the ability to catch. Perimeter works on passing with pressure on the ball. See More

Basketball Play - Michigan State-Curl

Michigan State-Curl

Jake Presutti 03/21/2014

This was a half court set Michigan State ran in the Big Ten Conference Championship game. The first option was for Travis Trice coming off a down screen. Michigan State will then set a back screen for their point guard, looking for a lob at the rim. The ball will then be passed into the post (Adreian Payne). Michigan State will then set a cross screen for Gary Harris, who will curl looking to receive a pass going to the rim. See More

FastModel Sports 01/23/2012

1 passes to 5 on the shape up as 4 cuts to opposite block 5 dribbles at 1's defender, hands off to 1, then goes down to set up a staggered double with 4. 2 waits for the handoff and flex cuts off of 4's screen. 2 looks for a pass from 1 at the rim then immediately reverses direction and sets up a staggered double with 4 to screen 5 into the post. 1 can enter directly to 5 or swing to 3 for the post feed. Basketball Play - Philly Blast

Philly Blast

Randy Brown 05/05/2014

Great play to isolate your 2 man in the lane using double screen. 1 clears to left side after entry pass and back screen by 5. On ball reversal 2 cuts off 1's back screen, setting up a double screen on the right side. If 2 is not open, 4 can pop out of the stack to continue possession or to get open shot. See More
