Basketball Play - Vegas Door

Vegas Door

Randy Brown 02/28/2013

If you are in need of a set play for a timely three then check out Vegas Door. Because most action and cuts off screens are horizontal, this play features a vertical cut up the floor. 4 and 5 are responsible for "closing the door" on the defender to create time for an open three pointer. See More

Basketball Play - Poke WS Lob

Poke WS Lob

Mark Travis 02/28/2013

When you have a versatile shooting guard like Markel Brown that can effectively score on the wing and in the paint, forcing an isolated defender to make a choice on how to guard him before he even catches the ball can be a good way to get an easy bucket. Look how Travis Ford got Brown isolated on one side of the floor with this double high screen and roll action and how it gets Brown an open lane to the rim. See More

Basketball Play - Hanover-Double Curl into Hand Off

Hanover-Double Curl into Hand Off

Kyle Brown 02/27/2013

A very good blob I saw from Hanover against Rose Hulman on Saturday. A different alignment and only a single guy setting the screen in the double curl action makes it harder to guard. Hanover was able to get their PG an easy layup off this look. The play could be finished a lot of different ways with screening actions on the backside or the 4 man diving to the rim. See More

Basketball Play - BYU ATO

BYU ATO

Michael Bowden 02/26/2013

BYU is tops in the nation when it comes to Synergy's analysis of After Time Out sets (ATO). They average a score 47-48% of the time after time outs. I have included 2 sets that they have ran this season both in the half court and out of a sideline out of bounds set. They like to take advantage of dribble handoffs and double screens to get players open. ATO and other special situation sets are very crucial this time of the year when games come down to the wire and its win or go home. See More

Basketball Play - Stevenson-Triple

Stevenson-Triple

Kyle Brown 02/25/2013

A good blob from a high school game this week. A natural triple for a shooter that the team scored twice on. The first time they slipped the last screen and the second time they got an open 3 for the player they were setting the triple for. Could also run a single double action out of this or run it against a zone. See More

Basketball Play - Stagger - Backdoor

Stagger - Backdoor

Kyle Gilreath 02/22/2013

Thursday night in a heated PAC-12 battle California's Mike Montgomery drew up this quick hitting back door action to attack Oregon's overplaying defense. Cal's Junior Guard Allen Crabbe has had one heck of a stretch lately of offensive games so Oregon really started denying the ball; or at least making it hard for him to catch. California came out of a timeout last night to take advantage of such over-aggressive defense. This is a great action to run because you occupy all of your help with the stagger opposite. See More

Basketball Play - Brooklyn ditches ISO-Joe on a game-deciding play

Brooklyn ditches ISO-Joe on a game-deciding play

Mark Travis 02/22/2013

The majority of Joe Johnson's clutch shots for the Nets this season have come on the infamous ISO-Joe plays that made Johnson's Atlanta Hawks' teams a bit of an eye sore on offense. To Johnson's credit, he's been remarkably efficient in one-on-one situations late in games this year, and he even hit the game-winner later in this game on an isolation possession. But down three with 6.7 seconds left in the game against the Milwaukee Bucks the other night, P.J. Carlesimo went away from ISO ball and drew up a beautiful elevator screen sequence to get Johnson a wide open look at a three from the top of the key. Unphased by the moment, Johnson executed his cut perfectly and he got good screens from his teammates, allowing him to tie things up and send the game to overtime. Video of this play. See More

Basketball Play - BLOB - Double Screen Down

BLOB - Double Screen Down

Basketball HQ 02/22/2013

With this play your 4 has to set a good screen to occupy his defender, and as soon as cuts off his shoulder, 4 has to dive hard to the rim looking for a layup. As you’re working on this play in practice, make sure you work with your 2 on reading the defense to make the proper decision to end up with an open shot. This play is from the 2010-2011 Houston Rockets season. See More

Basketball Play - Double Screen

Double Screen

Basketball HQ 02/21/2013

For this play make sure your 2 man is your best shooter. He has to use a misdirection cutting to the ball side block when 1 passes to 3 to set his defender up for the double stagger. Your 3 and your 2 have to have the right timing of 3 not coming off of the screens early so 3 does not have to throw a cross court pass. This play is from the 2010-2011 Houston Rockets season. Basketball Play - Fake Pin Down Lob

Fake Pin Down Lob

Basketball HQ 02/20/2013

For this play your 2 has to be your best player, and he has to really sell to his defender that he is coming off of 4's pin down to set him up to over play the screen. Once he see's his defender over playing the screen, he cuts hard for the backdoor lob. Your 5 man has to post on the elbow to occupy his defender. This play is from the 2010-2011 Houston Rockets season. See More
