Favorite Send to FastDrawThe spacing on this set is incredibly tight which places high importance on the ball handlers ability and the screeners timing. Here the San Antonio Spurs run #9 Tony Parker off a stagger screen while allowing #20 Manu Ginobili uses a #21 Tim Duncan ball screen. With the spacing being so tight the help defense is non-existent as they are hugged up with their own man. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Orlando Magic ran this action on versus the Boston Celtics during the 2013 Orlando Summer League. This is just another option out of the elbow set that I discussed several weeks ago! With the defense in helpside position (especially in high school in college where defensive 3 seconds is not a rule), this is a great action if you have bigger guards to duck and seal hard in the middle of the lane for a quick turn and finish. Favorite Send to FastDraw#4 Danny Green did a great job of moving around on the perimeter to give the Miami Heat fits in the NBA Finals. In this specific set he went from one corner to the other as #9 Tony Parker was dribbling off the stagger screen. His man was so worried about the rolling bigs he didn't even know where Green went. Led to a wide open 3-pointer. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Spurs ran this against the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals to create seperation on #21 Tim Duncan's side ball screen. #4 Danny Green while Duncan was trailing the play set his man up and set a screen for Duncan so he had a great screening angle on #9 Tony Parker. Everyone spaced the floor and Duncan & Parker played two man game. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Spurs do a great job of ball screening right on the catch of somebody who just ran off a screen. On this specific SLOB #20 Manu Ginobili runs off a zipper screen and then gets ball screened in the middle of the floor. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Spurs ran this play a lot to get #20 Manu Ginobili coming hard to get a dribble handoff. The pin down screen created some problems for opposing defenses and led to an open look for #21 Tim Duncan after giving Ginobili the handoff. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawMy favorite San Antonio Spurs SLOB and the one that the Miami Heat had the most difficulty defending in the NBA Finals. #9 Tony Parker did a great job of curling right around #21 Tim Duncan after passing him the ball for lay-ups. Duncan's defender was scared to help too much to give up an elbow jumper or drive, it led to two #9 Tony Parker lay-ups. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawA common San Antonio Spurs SLOB which didn't translate into many points against the Miami Heat. But the amount they ran it made me think they must have had good success with this action during the season. They utilized these back screens to get #21 Tim Duncan a post iso. The only hoop they got on this action against Miami was a #2 Kawhi Leonard 3 from the top of the key. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a great shooting and conditioning drill that keeps all of your players moving throughout the entire drill. Make sure the passers are feeding the shooters with great passes right in their shooting pocket! See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawA very simple and common set that the San Antonio Spurs ran and scored effectively in the NBA Finals was their screen the screener action out of Early Offense. Miami began defending it by having their weakside corner defender moving up to the top of the key to be there on the catch, and allowing their defender to chuck the post player coming across the lane longer. The Spurs caught on and skipped it to the weakside corner once for a 3. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawA very similiar set to what the Indiana Pacers ran against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals the Spurs ran a misdirection play against the Heat in the NBA Finals. Using the presence of #21 Tim Duncan they made it look like he was getting a cross screen, before #2 Kawhi Leonard turned right back around to set a stagger with #21 Tim Duncan for #20 Manu Ginobili. Favorite Send to FastDrawAt Fort Myers High School we run the Read and React Offense from Better Basketball. If you are not familiar with the offense it consists of five spots that should always be filled. If your defenders feet are above the three point line (Read Line) and you are one pass away we tell our players to immediately cut back door. With that in mind this morning I put a couple of our guys through a grueling session of finishing moves which incorporates this concept. When finishing from the sides I like to teach my players to get their shoulders parallel with the baseline to product themselves and the ball from a defender. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawAn action being used a lot by NBA teams was utilized in the NBA Finals by both the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs. Here in this diagram you can see that on the #9 Tony Parker and #21 Tim Duncan pick n' roll #4 Danny Green sprints from the weakside corner underneath the hoop to the strong side of the floor. His man was sinking in to help on the rolling post and lost track of his man. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawHere is the set the San Antonio Spurs ran in Game 5 against the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. Having only 5 seconds to go 3/4 court on the sideline the Spurs went with a small line up. They put #9 Tony Parker at midcourt, and had #14 Gary Neal run off him first, and then #20 Manu Ginobili. With him setting two screens he was able to pop back to the ball and have a full court iso. See More
