Basketball Play - Circle Movement Shooting Drill

Circle Movement Shooting Drill

Coach Czes 11/01/2012

We run this combination drill for 10 minutes with half of the team on each end of the court, starting on the right side. We do 1:30 shot fake and drive, 1:30 shot fake-escape dribble jumper, and 2:00 catch and shoot. Then we switch ENDS (they are now all on the left side of court) and work back down. 2:00 catch and shoot, 1:30 shot fake-escape dribble jumper, 1:30 shot fake and drive. We stress ball fakes before the pass, jump stop finishes, great closeouts, making great shot fakes, calling names out on passes, and covering ground with our dribble. See More

Basketball Play - Pacers Dribble Weave

Pacers Dribble Weave

Coach Czes 05/31/2013

The Pacers ran this great action just before halftime in Game 5 of the 2013 ECF versus the Miami Heat. Unfortunately, David West missed the lay-up. The play worked so well because West's defender (Bosh) lost track of him cutting baseline and the screener's defender (Anderson) did not open up to help, allowing West to seal him under the basket. Basketball Play - Dribble

Dribble

You can take advantage of the multiple scoring opportunities within this set and run it several possessions in a row and get different shots each time. The pinch-double is great early action for your best shooter and by running the Iverson screen for your point-guard, you get the ball back into the hands of your best ball handler prior to attacking off the ball screens. Basketball Play - Sooner Drill

Sooner Drill

Fabian McKenzie 12/05/2012

This is a drill we have used in our warmup. We use different variations within the drill. Players line up at half court. Each player has a ball Pass to coach, cut hard to rim and receive a pass from coach. Take a traditional layup. We also use a two foot power layup. Variation - we add a blocking pad to simulate contact at the rim Players get their own rebound and must make 2 changes of direction on way back to half court. (Between legs, crossover, behind back, etc) They go back to the same line where they started. In this variation we make a reverse layup underneath the basket In this variation we have the players receive a pass just before the 3 point line. They must jump stop, shot fake and attack the elbow for a one dribble pull up jump shot. We prefer the players use a crossover step when they attack the middle Variation 1 - Have the players pull up for a 3 point shot. Variation 2 - After the shot fake, we have the players crossover and dribble to opposite side of rim for a little running hook shot. See More

Basketball Play - Randolph Drill

Randolph Drill

Fabian McKenzie 08/27/2014

This is a tremendous early season conditioning drill. It is a very tough drill to do when you stress that the players get to the corners and take no shortcuts. We will do this for 1 minute on each side building up to 3-4 minutes a side. You can choose the dribble moves they use and also what type of finish you would like at the rim. Lastly, once they know the drill, when you want to run sprints, suicides, lines, etc. think of running this instead. Lots of handling, passing and finishing. See More

Basketball Play - Off the Ball 1 on 1 Drill

Off the Ball 1 on 1 Drill

Fabian McKenzie 07/04/2014

This is a good drill for players to work on getting open away from the ball. The defensive player must also work very hard to prevent 1 from making an easy catch. The passer must also work at delivering the pass on time and on target. You can play to a set score or a set number of stops. We will move spots on the floor to increase the difficulty for the offense or defense See More

Coach calls "GO" Players sprint toward cones Coach calls "LEFT" or "RIGHT" Players break around cones (touch baseline if you don't have or wish to use cones) to that side and outside player is on offense. In this example, coach calls "RIGHT" and 1 is on offense. Move cones to different spots on floor to change angles of attack See More

Basketball Play - HUBIE DRILL

HUBIE DRILL

Fabian McKenzie 03/17/2015

This Drill starts with 5 players along the baseline. 4 and 5 will run wide lanes 2 and 3 will run inside lanes Players begin to sprint up the court. 1 passes to 2 2 passes to 3 3 passes to 4 4 passes to 5 for a layup There are no dribbles allowed to get the ball up the court and into the basket While it may look a little confusing it is really fluid. 1 always gets the rebound. 2 and 3 touch the baseline and change lanes 4 and 5 must touch baseline and change lanes The drill continues in the same pattern 1 passes to 2 2 passes to 3 3 passes to 4 4 passes to 5 for a layup Options: You can have another group ready to go and challenge the entire team to make a certain amount of layups withing a time frame. A missed layup or missed pass can reset the score to zero for a tougher challenge. We have also done this drill where we build it up from down and back to 2 or 3 times down and back. Another variation is if the players miss a layup they must continue until they get 2 layups in a row See More
