Basketball Play - Washington Wizards "Rip Double"

Washington Wizards "Rip Double"

Gibson Pyper 05/14/2015

Another quick hitter from the Wizards game in Game 4 to get Paul Pierce an easy layup. As the ball is brought up on the wing, Beal sets a "Rip" screen for Pierce and then comes off a double screen. Because of the shooting ability of Beal, he frees up Pierce by screening and then cutting off a double screen. See More

Basketball Play - Tulsa Box Double Ball Screen

Tulsa Box Double Ball Screen

Wes Kosel 05/11/2015

The players are set up in a box set with the posts at the elbows. Both 5 and 4 screen down for 3 and 2 at the blocks. 1 passes to 2 on the right wing then cuts off of a screen from 5 at the elbow to the opposite corner. 5 then flashes to the high post to get the pass from 2. If 5 isn't open, 5 and 4 step out to set a double ball-screen on the wing. 2 drives middle looking to score, pass off to 5 rolling, or kick out to 1 in the corner. See More

Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors "Rip DHO"

Golden State Warriors "Rip DHO"

Gibson Pyper 05/07/2015

Normally Curry brings the ball up the floor, but in this set the player they want to try and free up for a layup (often the 3 man such as Barnes or Iguadola) will bring the ball up. The player bringing the ball up will pass to trailing big man and receives a backscreen from Curry, looking to get a layup off the screen is the first option. If the man is covered on the backscreen, Curry then receives a dribble hand off from the big who then rolls to the rim. The second option is great because Curry's man has to help or at least show to prevent a layup, allowing Curry to come off the dribble handoff typically unimpeded. See More

Basketball Play - Memphis Grizzlies SOG Hi-Lo

Memphis Grizzlies SOG Hi-Lo

Craig LeVasseur 05/06/2015

This was the opening play for the Grizzlies in Game 2 versus the Warriors. There is a lot of moment to this play and it presents multiple options, making it a great play to get your offense started. This play presents two opportunities for Zach Randolph to post up on either block, and really takes advantage of Marc Gasol's ability in hi-lo situations. See More

Basketball Play - Chicago Bulls "Lob"

Chicago Bulls "Lob"

Gibson Pyper 04/30/2015

To open up game 2 against Milwaukee, the Bulls ran a nice Lob set to get an easy two points for Jimmy Butler. The set begins with Pau screening down for Butler who then sets a ballscreen on the wing. Because his man has to show/help/switch on the ballscreen this allows him to cut off the double backscreen easier for a lob. See More

Basketball Play - Boston Celtics "Indy Rip"

Boston Celtics "Indy Rip"

Gibson Pyper 04/30/2015

Brad Stevens took an underrated and a Boston Celtic team that had mid season trades and were expecting to head for an early draft pick to the playoffs. He is one of the best basketball minds in the NBA, and he runs a nice set for Isaiah Thomas with multiple options off of it. It starts with a dribble handoff to the trailing big and the point guard cuts off backscreen from the opposite big man at the elbow. The first option is for the point guard to "V" cut back off at the elbow and look for a shot opportunity. If there is not shot available, 5 will step up and set a ballscreen, because of the dribble handoff 4 is already spacing the floor, so the Spread Pick & Roll doesn't need to be setup. The next option is for 1 to continue off backscreen and set a flex screen for the wing man and then receive a down screen from 4. See More

Basketball Play - Atlanta Hawks "UCLA Flare"

Atlanta Hawks "UCLA Flare"

Gibson Pyper 04/30/2015

Coach of the Year Mike Budenholzer is one of the best, if not the best, coach in after timeout and special situations to get players great shot opportunities. To start game 5 against the Brooklyn Nets he gets alot of movement before getting Kyle Korver an open look from 3. They run the normal "Zipper" cut into a double screen to get some action before the initial set. Their big pops to the wing, and Budenholzer has Korver set a UCLA screen before coming off a flare screen for an open look from 3. See More

Basketball Play - San Antonio Spurs "DHO Quick (Lob)"

San Antonio Spurs "DHO Quick (Lob)"

Gibson Pyper 04/26/2015

Gregg Popovich is one of the most creative coaches when it comes to creating sets to get his best players in the best positions to score. Here is a set that gets a quick lob for Kawhi Leanord, starting with a dribble handoff from Tony Parker to Duncan on the wing, 5 then sets a quick backscreen for Kawhi to catch the lob. I like this set because it allows Duncan to pull his man out of the paint & with 5 screening for Kawhi it removes any rim protection. See More
