Basketball Play - 3-low vs. Box 1 or Diamond 1 (Guarded Player Baseline Runner)

3-low vs. Box 1 or Diamond 1 (Guarded Player Baseline Runner)

Rory Hamilton 07/29/2015

In this version of "3-low", we are using our two post players along the baseline as screeners and sealers and our top two guards as gappers. The two top guards are to play in gaps and be ready to penetrate and pitch against the one guard front. They are also trying to read the defense as our guarded player comes off of baseline screening actions. This play has the same action upon a baseline catch in that the strong side post player immediately screens away for the weak side post player. If a star player catches in the corner, the ball side post can also set a ball screen for the guarded player. This puts the defense in a vulnerable position and forces help from the zone players. As you can see in the diagram, the player has multiple reads off the ball screen (shot, roll man, reverse). My favorite part of this action is that you are engaging multiple defenders thus creating action and indecision by the defense. See More

Basketball Play - Baseline (3-low)

Baseline (3-low)

Rory Hamilton 07/29/2015

We start by forming a triple stack on either block with our player being guarded M2M on top. To initiate the action, the point guard uses a freeze dribble to attack the top defender in the box and the players forming the stack set a double screen on the low box defender and the middle guard looks to pop out to shooting range. If the bottom of the zone shifts out quickly to defended the short corner/corner shot, the ball side post immediately screens away and brings weak side post across the hoop for a baseline bounce pass. If nothing develops on this action a quick pass to the point guard followed by a ball screen by the guarded player and the action can be run to the other side. If at anytime the bottom box defender anticipates the corner pass, the point guard can ball fake and immediately hit the post player slipping the screen on the block. You can also run this play with your player being guarded M2M as the baseline runner. See More

Basketball Play - Aggie Zone Quick Hitter

Aggie Zone Quick Hitter

Wes Kosel 07/18/2015

In this zone quick hitter, 1 dribbles left as 3 runs the baseline to the opposite corner. 5 screens the bottom zone defender on 3's side. Once 3 gets to the corner, 2 cuts to the rim and 1 passes to 3. 3 dribbles up from the corner as 4 screens the inside defender and 2 screens the low defender on the opposite side. 5 slips around the screens to the block. If 5 isn't open, 5 screens in for 2 who cuts to the corner for a shot. See More

Basketball Play - Spartan Zone Options

Spartan Zone Options

Wes Kosel 07/18/2015

In this zone play from Michigan State, 1 dribbles to the right as 4 screens the bottom man in the zone and 5 screens the middle zone defender. 2 loops around 5's screen looking for a quick pass into the lane. If 2 gets the ball and the middle defender steps up, 2 passes off to 4 at the rim. If the outside zone defender stays underneath 4 on the initial screen, 2 can pass to 3 for an open shot. See More

Basketball Play - 32

32

Andrew Lacey 07/13/2015

Start in a 1-2-2 alignment with your bigs on the blocks. 1 will dribble the basketball away from the side he wants to enter the ball. (ex. Go away from your best shooter). As one is coming back to the shooter's side; 4/5 will set a double screen (elevator screen) for the shooter (2 in this case). 2 will sprint around the screen and back to the ball side corner looking for the shot. 3 will slide to the weak-side corner. If 2 is not open for the pass/shot. 5 (or the post thats at the top of the double screen) will set a screen for the 4 (or post at the bottom of the double screen). 4 then curls tight off the screen looking for a pass from 1. Basketball Play - Kansas Jayhawks Zone Lob

Kansas Jayhawks Zone Lob

Wes Kosel 07/08/2015

In this play from Bill Self, Kansas gets an open lob against a zone defense. 1 starts by dribbling to the right pushing 3 to the corner and sending 2 into the lane and back out to replace 1. Once 2 is on the perimeter, 1 passes back to 2 forcing the defense to turn and face the ball. With the attention off of 3 in the corner, he sneaks along the baseline as 5 and 4 screen up into the lane. 2 makes the lob pass to 3 for a dunk. See More

Basketball Play - Shallow

Shallow

SHALLOW is a great quickhitting play to helps you attack Zone looks with a simple, but hard to guard action, giving you either a wide open look from 3 or an easy, high percentage paint touch. It was our gp-to play vs. 2-3 Zones last season. See More

1-3-1 Zone Set Play

Dana Beszczynski 05/30/2015

John Beilein had a masterful game plan against the Syracuse 2-3 Zone and here is another example of moving players and the ball to get the best possible shot The Orangemen were consistently spread out by the passing of the Wolverines and had their fair share of open looks There were also many secondary options off the sets which created match-up problems for the vaunted Syracuse Zone Defense of Jim Boeheim See More
