This is a BLOB play run by Lokomotiv Kuban from the 1st Half of their VTB League game against reigning Euroleague Champions CSKA Moscow. The curl action off the initial back screen sets up the next movement with the inbounder coming off a double stagger and curling to the weak side looking for a pass. As the inbounder is clearing the the double stagger, 5 & 4 move to set a "gate screen" for the 2 man coming through looking for the 3 pt shot. This is a bang-bang action forcing the defense to choose what to guard. When 3 receives the ball, he has isolation, looking to attack the defender or 2 has an open shot off the gate screen. Sasa Obradovic recently took over at Lokomotiv after having began the season in Greece on the bench of PAO. He is quickly turning Loko back into the team it was last season when it reached the Euroleague Final 4. See More

Redick's defender stays attached to him and does not help on penetration, Jamal Crawford's defender has to rotate from the weak-side to wall off penetration. The play was designed with options for their two best 3 point shooters to get a look at tying the game. 2 uses the cross screen from 5 to set up a stagger screen for 1 for the first option. 5 then sets a second screen for 2 to get him a shot up top for the second option. SFA went into yesterday's ESPN Marathon having won 28 consecutive games at home. Their last loss came against Northern Iowa in the 2014 ESPN Marathon. Kyle Keller inherited an SFA Team rich in tradition and NCAA appearances the last years. Keller comes to the Lumberjacks after having served as an Assistant at Texas A & M for Billy Kennedy. In yesterday's match-up against Big South opponent Longwood, they found themselves in a tight match all the way down the stretch. TJ Holiday had it going for the Jacks though and this little Box Set was designed to get him a look at the basket. See More

What makes this simple play work effectively is that Brad Stevens designed this action to get Isaiah Thomas attacking with his strong hand downhill. See More

The Orlando Magic ran this isolation play with the score tied and 10 seconds left in their game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. 2 makes an Iverson cut across the screens from 4 & 5. This cut is a decoy designed to draw attention from the defense. It is very effective when this is done with one of your primary scorers. 5 then screens for 4, resulting in an isolation where 4 can go 1 on 1 attacking the basket with his dominant hand. In this play x5 had to make a switch onto 4 which can also cause mismatch situations. See More

The Minnesota Lynx ran this play with the score tied 73-73 and 35.8 seconds left in game 5 of the WNBA Finals. Once the ball was inbounded, 1 made a UCLA cut into the mid-post area to receive the pass from 2. 3 (Maya Moore) set a back screen for the 4 and then ran off the screen from 5 to get the 3 point shot. Though 3 missed the shot, 4 was in offensive rebounding position and was able to collect the rebound and get to the free throw line. See More

As 5 sets the flare screen for 2 this forces X5 to drop back in a help/support position to prevent the basket cut. As this is happening, 5 turns and sets a second screen for 3. Since X5 is in a help position this eliminiates any help from X5 stepping out to show on the screen and leads to an open 3-point shot for Maya Moore (3). See More
