Favorite Send to FastDrawThis was a nice action run by John Beilein against the Syracuse 2-3 Zone On the wing pass, the Zone is forced to make decisions on priority coverage In this situation, x4 got caught and 5 was able to hit 4 on the baseline for an easy lay-up - in the next sequence when this play was run, the defense adjusts, but this time 5 is free for an elbow jumper See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a set play run by the Slovenian National Team to free up their talented PG Goran Dragic. They do a good job using movement and screens to give him the best opportunity to attack the basket. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis play run by the Duke Lady Blue Devils has a little bit of everything The end of this play is designed to get Williams the ball in spot where she can use her speed and ball handling skills to penetrate on the open side The set incoroporates the use of the ball screen, down screen, back screen in the lane, and the spacing is good setting up multiple options to score See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Murray State Racers have in Cameron Payne a Freshman with ultra quick footwork and the ability to breakdown defenders 1 v 1. This set utilizes that quickness starting in a 1-4 low set and using the wing man to set a screen on x5 giving the 5 man a chance to sprint to set a screen thus eliminating help. Payne reads the defender, rejects the screen and attacks the post side where he rubs his defender into the post and throws up a floater to the basket. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Purdue Boilermakers ran this play in their double overtime loss to Arkansas Little Rock in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament. A quick hitter action with a wing entry pass and the PG sprinting down the lane to quickly screen for 5 who flashes into the ball side post looking for a quick pass and score. The PG replaces himself at the TOK and the 4 man screens down for 2 who comes off looking to catch & shoot off ball reversal. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawTom Crean's Indiana team this year has high expectations and our loaded with talent. This play from their season opening victory against Kansas is designed to free up the talented OG Anunoby. A simple play which can be run out of Transition. Quick wing entry pass, clear the ball side Post man and set a "rub" screen for the trailing Post who quickly uses the screen to free himself up inside. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawBill Self is a master tactician as shown in this opening play from last nights game against the Duke Blue Devils at Madison Square Garden. The Jayhawks looked to set the tone early posting up the taller Jackson against Kennard in the Post on this quick hit Isolation set. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a BLOB play run by Lokomotiv Kuban from the 1st Half of their VTB League game against reigning Euroleague Champions CSKA Moscow. The curl action off the initial back screen sets up the next movement with the inbounder coming off a double stagger and curling to the weak side looking for a pass. As the inbounder is clearing the the double stagger, 5 & 4 move to set a "gate screen" for the 2 man coming through looking for the 3 pt shot. This is a bang-bang action forcing the defense to choose what to guard. When 3 receives the ball, he has isolation, looking to attack the defender or 2 has an open shot off the gate screen. Sasa Obradovic recently took over at Lokomotiv after having began the season in Greece on the bench of PAO. He is quickly turning Loko back into the team it was last season when it reached the Euroleague Final 4. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis simple set does not look like anything at first look, but what makes this isolation action so effective is the open space Thomas has to attack the basket off the back door cut from Mackenzie. The defense all goes to one side giving Thomas the chance to attack the paint, drop-off to the center or kick-out for the open 3 pt shot if the defense sags in. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawGonzaga fought off a furious challenge last night in the Sweet 16 from West Virginia. The Zags had difficult at times getting into their sets due to the relentless ball pressure applied from the Mountaineers. Here is a Post Iso action run from a Box set where they look to free up Karnowski off a simple back screen action in the lane. Gonzaga does a good job moving without the ball and opening up the cutting lanes as evident by the last frame here with the ball in the Post. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe majority of Joe Johnson's clutch shots for the Nets this season have come on the infamous ISO-Joe plays that made Johnson's Atlanta Hawks' teams a bit of an eye sore on offense. To Johnson's credit, he's been remarkably efficient in one-on-one situations late in games this year, and he even hit the game-winner later in this game on an isolation possession. But down three with 6.7 seconds left in the game against the Milwaukee Bucks the other night, P.J. Carlesimo went away from ISO ball and drew up a beautiful elevator screen sequence to get Johnson a wide open look at a three from the top of the key. Unphased by the moment, Johnson executed his cut perfectly and he got good screens from his teammates, allowing him to tie things up and send the game to overtime. Video of this play. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawVillanova ran this quick hitter with success numerous times in their Big East Conference opener on the road at Butler on New Year's Eve 12/31/13. The first two options were the looks Villanova got against Butler. I added the last option for another wrinkle to this set. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawHere is a set play ran by Tommy Amaker at Harvard. A slashing wing/guard would be ideal in the "3" spot in this diagram, with your best shooter as your "2" to force the defense to make a choice to take away the drive (and leave an open shot for 2 in the corner) or put a lot of pressure on 3's defender to keep him from getting to the rim in isolation after coming off the ball screen from 4. Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Sacramento Kings ran this sideline inbounds play with less than one minute left in their 112-108 loss to the Clippers on 4/17/2013. DeMarcus Cousins had a big game scoring 36 points and scored on two inbounds plays with less than a minute left to keep the game close. If you have a matchup advantage it is a good idea to isolate the scorer and let them do what they do best. See More
