Favorite Send to FastDrawStruggling to score against Golden State in Game 5, Dave Joerger called a timeout and setup a nice "Blind Pig" set to get an easy score. Knowing that Golden State was playing aggressive and overhelping on any screen that a guard cut off of, he had Gasol flash to the high post after Conley exited the screen and received the ball. After he caught the ball, Conley cut backdoor with his man on the high side, and Gasol hit him with a nice backdoor pass for a floater. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIn the playoffs, alot of teams attack mismatches, and Golden State has been no different. This postseason when the first option off the backscreen is covered, he had Klay Thompson & Harrison Barnes both post up against weaker opponent guarding them. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawWith John Wall going down with an injury, the Wizards turned to Bradley Beal to be a facilitator and scorer in his absence. Wittman setup a nice set to create movement and to get Beal coming off a dribble handoff and get an open look. First Beal passes to the wing and then cuts off a UCLA screen from the big at the elbow, and then sits down in the post. The guard on the wing passes to the elbow and sets a down screen for Beal who then receives a dribble handoff from the big and looks to attack. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawEven when the Rockets weren't punishing the Mavericks in round one with the Josh Smith-Dwight Howard pick and roll combination, they still found ways to take advantage of the defense and connect for lobs. This is a simple 1-4 high pick, with a throwback to Smith. He immediately goes into Side P/R action with James Harden, or DHO in this case. This is hard work for x4, Dirk, who shows hard on the DHO. Note the 1 and 3 switching spots on the weakside, which makes x1, JJ Barea, the low defender. As Harden hits Smith on the roll, x5 must pull over to stop the drive. JJ Barea is sitting on Howard's top leg like he is supposed to be, but that hardly matters. This is an easy Smith to Howard lob. See More
Favorite Send to FastDraw1 dribbles right then back to the top of the key pushing 4 to the block and 3 to the corner. As 1 dribbles left, 5 flashes to the high post. Once 5 has the ball, he looks to pass inside to 4. If 4 isn't open, 5 gives the ball to 3 on a dribble hand-off and 2 screens across the lane for 4. If 4 isn't open, 5 screens down for 2 for a shot on the wing. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this quick hitter, 1 dribbles right giving the ball to 2 on a dribble hand-off. On the weak side, 4 and 5 set a staggered screen for 3 who cuts up for a shot. See More
Favorite Send to FastDraw1 dribbles to the left wing giving the ball to 3 on a dribble hand-off. 3 dribbles middle then swings the ball to 2. At the same time, 5 screens across for 4. If 4 isn't open, he sprints out to the wing as if he is going to set a ball-screen for 2. 4 slips the screen and 5 elevates. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawAnother new set the Cavaliers have ran in the Chicago Bulls series has been a set that Doc Rivers ran with Rajon Rondo in Boston and now with Chris Paul in Los Angeles. With Tyronn Lue being an assistant and a main cog in the Cavs system this year, he added this set for Kyrie to get on the move and receive a dribble handoff and attack. The set starts with a pass to the wing and cuts through towards the rim. As Kyrie cuts through the ball is reversed to the top of the key and Kyrie cuts off a double screen from 2 & 4 into a dribble handoff from 5. Kyrie looks to attack initially and if he is stopped, 5 steps up and sets a spread ballscreen for 1. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawNormally Curry brings the ball up the floor, but in this set the player they want to try and free up for a layup (often the 3 man such as Barnes or Iguadola) will bring the ball up. The player bringing the ball up will pass to trailing big man and receives a backscreen from Curry, looking to get a layup off the screen is the first option. If the man is covered on the backscreen, Curry then receives a dribble hand off from the big who then rolls to the rim. The second option is great because Curry's man has to help or at least show to prevent a layup, allowing Curry to come off the dribble handoff typically unimpeded. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe first video clip is a simple side ball screen with a double screen on the weak side of the floor. The interesting thing about this action is the spacing UK uses on the weak side of the floor. The double screen is set just inside of the three-point line which is more commonly seen in NBA sets where defenses have to play tighter to their man due to everyone on the floor being able to make shots. Kentucky ends up getting a lay-up in the post out of this action as Wisconsin can’t over help with the double screen being right below the 3-point line. The second video clip is a ball screen set at the top of the key to an open side of the floor. If the guard can’t attack the open space he throws back to the popping 4 man who looks for his own shot. On his catch the 3 man that’s stacked up with the 5 man slams 5’s defender so 4 has a straight line pass to 5 sealing in the lane. The deep post catch forced Wisconsin to double down and left UK’s guard wide open for a 3-point shot. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Toronto Raptors run a nice set to get Demar Derozan moving into a quick jump shot or backdoor opportunity. Starting off with a hi ballscreen for Lowry and as he comes off it 5 seals his man in the post. After the post entry 5 turns and looks to either dribble handoff to 2 or if he is overplayed he cuts backdoor for a layup. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawDoc Rivers loves to get Chris Paul & Blake Griffin in a Post Pick & Roll situation to put the defense in a tough situation. Out of this set, they ran a counter late against the San Antonio Spurs to get Chris Paul moving and attacking off a double screen. Instead of setting a flex screen and then sealing his man for a post up, Paul leaks out and receives a dribble handoff from Blake Griffin and attacks off a ballscreen from DeAndre Jordan. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawDown late against Milwaukee, Bulls coach Thibodeau called a great After Time Out set to get Mirotic a wide open 3 point look. Initially on the wing, 1 passes to 3 who quickly flips it back to him and clears to opposite wing. 5 then steps up and sets a ballscreen for 5 who attacks to the corner, 5 dives to the rim, as this action occurs 4 sneaks up and pops to the lane line extended area for replace action to take advantage of help defense from the Bucks. Favorite Send to FastDrawBrad Stevens took an underrated and a Boston Celtic team that had mid season trades and were expecting to head for an early draft pick to the playoffs. He is one of the best basketball minds in the NBA, and he runs a nice set for Isaiah Thomas with multiple options off of it. It starts with a dribble handoff to the trailing big and the point guard cuts off backscreen from the opposite big man at the elbow. The first option is for the point guard to "V" cut back off at the elbow and look for a shot opportunity. If there is not shot available, 5 will step up and set a ballscreen, because of the dribble handoff 4 is already spacing the floor, so the Spread Pick & Roll doesn't need to be setup. The next option is for 1 to continue off backscreen and set a flex screen for the wing man and then receive a down screen from 4. See More
