Basketball Play - Game-Like Three-Man Weave

Game-Like Three-Man Weave

Drew Hanlen 04/07/2014

If you're like me, you HATE the traditional three-man weave drill because players don't take it serious, players make bad passes, players travel during the drill and players shoot uncontested lay-ups (which rarely happens in games). Here's two great variations of the three-man weave that are actually game-like and will get your players better! Basketball Play - Horns Again

Horns Again

Kyle Gilreath 03/08/2014

The Florida Gators ran this pick & roll in their win over South Carolina on Tuesday night. Coach Donovan really stresses the importance of timing in his offense and drills it on a daily basis; the timing on this play was flawless. As 1 (Wilbekin) came off the 2nd pick from 5 (Young), the roll was so open because Florida’s Frazier (3) was on a shooting tear and X3 did not help into the lane enough on Young. See More

Basketball Play - 1v2 Rebounding

1v2 Rebounding

Drew Hanlen 12/06/2013

This is a great drill to get your players to box out on defense and crash and avoid box outs on offense. Too many rebounding drills benefit the taller players and don't truly reward players for boxing out or getting around box outs, so this drill is perfect to reward pursuit effort. See More

Basketball Play - 1 on 4 Alley Drill

1 on 4 Alley Drill

Kyle Gilreath 11/22/2013

This is a great drill I got from Florida State Assistant Stan Jones at a clinic he spoke at in the Fall. Many times when you do 1-on-1 alley drills with your team the defensive player becomes not as energetic half-way through the drill. This drill takes that factor out and makes the ball-handler beat four fresh defensive players in order to score. Once 1 and X4 finish the drill continues with a X1 becoming the new offensive player and X2 becomes the first defender in line; X3 becomes the new X2, X4 becomes the new X3, and the previous offensive player is now X4. 4 on 4 actions (1 of 3)

When we see scout, we try to simulate the opposing teams actions in our defensive breakdown drills. This play has backscreens, and double stagger screens. These are difficult actions to defend when ran correctly. This gives coaches a time to break down these actions in practice. See More

Basketball Play - 10 in 1 Shooting Drill

10 in 1 Shooting Drill

Kyle Gilreath 09/06/2013

This is one of my favorite shooting drills of all time. It combines shooting, conditioning, and mental toughness to fight through fatigue. I got this drill from Embry-Riddle Head Coach Steve Ridder many years ago when I was a youngster attending team camp with my dad. This drill will test any player who thinks they are a great shooter and make them prove it! Goal: Good Players: 10 Great Players: 11 Elite Players: 12+ See More

Basketball Play - Circle Trap

Circle Trap

Kyle Gilreath 07/02/2013

The Circle Trap drill is one of the best drills to not only teach your offensive players how to handle traps under pressure, but it also teaches your defense how to trap without fouling. Offensively teach your players to be strong with the ball and how to create space. This drill also enforces the term "Fake a Pass Before you Make a Pass". Defensively trap with your feet and never allow splits. Keep your hands behind your elbows to prevent fouling. This drill also teaches the intercepter how to read the passer and try to anticipate the next pass. See More
