Basketball Play - Elbow Triple

Elbow Triple

Doug Brotherton 04/24/2017

When building your playbook for next season, we want to give you some things to consider. For example, do your sets have anything that make them easy to scout? Do they all start from different formations? Is it difficult to flow from the base offense, into the sets? Do they all use the same action? Do the sets lack versatility? These are all challenges, which coaches must consider, and do not realize until they face the best teams on their schedule. The "Elbow Series" below is an example of some sets that check all of the necessary boxes, which make them a solid addition to your playbook. Read More: http://bit.ly/2pbH6L1 See More

Basketball Play - Michigan Wolverines- 42 Clear

Michigan Wolverines- 42 Clear

Doug Brotherton 03/16/2018

Michigan ran this set, to counter Montana's aggressive traps in the Wolverine's ball screens. This set clears the space behind the ball screen, allowing the screener to pop. Michigan ran this for their best shooter. At the end of the set, the screener can shoot the 3, or make the extra pass for a better shot. Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavaliers - Point Flares (vs switching)

Cleveland Cavaliers - Point Flares (vs switching)

Doug Brotherton 05/22/2018

In Games 1 and 2 of the 2018 Eastern Conference Finals, the Boston Celtics got a lot of credit for their smooth switches defensively. In games 3 and 4, the Cleveland Cavaliers countered with some basic actions to pick on the switching defense. Their most effective action was their "Point Flares," with LeBron James as the passer from the middle of the floor. The corner to wing flare allows the screener to seal and cut to the rim, for a pass over the top. This set gave the Celtics fits, resulting in multiple layups for Cleveland. Belmont Bruins - "Panic Reverse" (Late Clock)

Doug Brotherton 03/22/2019

Belmont trailed by 1, with 20 seconds left, in their first round match-up with Maryland. Coach Byrd decided to hold for one shot, and ran the counter to their "Panic Backdoor set." It is a great late clock action, but the ball pressure led to a deflection. It is worth having in your back pocket as a pressure release at the end of games. #FastModelMadness NCAA Tournament: Viewing Guide by Style of Play See More
