Basketball Play - 5 Out Roll & Seal (Secondary)

5 Out Roll & Seal (Secondary)

Matt Hackenberg 12/09/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a secondary action out of a 5 Out fast break where we drag screen with our post player, and then roll them into the lane. While our post player is rolling, we are creating spacing to make a post entry. Against switching ball screen defenses, this creates an easy mismatch to exploit without having to stop and set up a formal offense. Basketball Play - Shell Defense Progressions

Shell Defense Progressions

Matt Hackenberg 12/09/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we go through all the phases of our shell defense for a full breakdown. I believe you will find at least one golden nugget to incorporate into your version of shell defense in here. We run a gap style of defense, but the structure of the drill will translate to any type of defense you may play. Basketball Play - Circle Motion Set (Curl-Curl-Pop)

Circle Motion Set (Curl-Curl-Pop)

Matt Hackenberg 12/09/2021

#CircleMotionTips is a series of videos on YouTube to look at some of the details of the Circle Motion Offense. To understand the offense on a basic level, refer to this link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5-V_...). In this video we look closely at a set play or alternate cutting series in the Circle Motion. This action involves two cutters going to rim, and one popping back to the perimeter. I wrote an in-depth, 30 page document outlining everything to do with the offense, mostly to help me understand the offense with more clarity. It is available on Sellfy here: https://sellfy.com/coachhack.go/p/ten... and check out my other content in the store! Basketball Play - Euro Ball Screen Offense ("Wave")

Euro Ball Screen Offense ("Wave")

Matt Hackenberg 12/09/2021

In 2014, the team I was coaching lost in the Ohio High School State Finals to a GREAT defensive team. We ran our entire offensive package (dribble drive, sets, high ball screens, etc.) at them and could not get any good looks. The feeling from that game led me on a search to find a great continuity offense that included screening, ball reversals and the option to use it for interior shots or perimeter shots. The search culminated in finding the 5-Out Euro Ball Screen Offense from watching the Olympics. We took the basics of the offense, added some bells and whistles, and made it something that could accomplish all we were looking for in an offense. We incorporated sets out of the flow of the offense, motion numbered cutting principles and various entries to spice things up. We put all that information into 45 extremely detailed pages of a PDF file on this offense and all the teaching points involved in making it your offense. To purchase the PDF, click here: https://sellfy.com/p/8JOh/ Aquinas' main man-to-man offense from the 2014-15 season was continuity ball screen attack we called "Wave." It was our first year running it as our main offense but used it as a set play the previous season. We were able to use a lot of different features within the offense to attack our opponents and many of those features are outlined in this video. Depending on the strengths of the players, the offense can be more tailored for the perimeter or the interior. We used multiple entries including several not shown on the video and numbered cut system so the players could communicate which screens and cuts they were about to make. Basketball Play - High Ball Screen Continuity Offense: "Flow"

High Ball Screen Continuity Offense: "Flow"

Matt Hackenberg 12/10/2021

This is a breakdown of an offense we call "Flow." Flow is three guard, two forward offense that is a hybrid of a ball screen offense and dribble drive concepts. It has options to attack driving gaps and play pick and roll. I really think the roll and replace concept is hard to guard, and we often found the replacing big wide open at the top of the key. Obviously, playmaking guards are a centerpiece to this concept. Basketball Play - "FIRE" Transition (on a Miss/TO)

"FIRE" Transition (on a Miss/TO)

Matt Hackenberg 12/11/2021

Our semi-structured break off opponent misses has become one of the calling cards of our program. Through drilling, we've trained the players to rebound, pivot their shoulders up the court and make outlet passes leading to advantage situations for our team. As an undersized team, we view this as a defense against teams crashing the offensive boards hard. Basketball Play - 5 Out Double Flare "Special"

5 Out Double Flare "Special"

Matt Hackenberg 12/14/2021

We used a 5 Out pass and cut offense which set up this play perfectly. When the designated shooter got to the top of the key we double-flared the back side and dribbled at the flare screens. We used a numbering system for our personnel - the point guard was the 1, shooting guard was the 2, etc. So I would call "Special 2" to indicate we were running the flare screens for the shooting guard in our system. Basketball Play - Gate Back Cut SLOB

Gate Back Cut SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/15/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a back cut on the gate screen action. I think this action is best paired in series with using the gate screen, using the gate screen and then slipping a screener, and some option after entering to the corner. So if I didn't have a gate screen series installed, I would think about this as a play to draw up in a timeout, or a rare special sitatution SLOB you don't use very often at all. Video clip below. Basketball Play - Flash Fake HO SLOB

Flash Fake HO SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/16/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a SLOB to create a driving gap using some misdirection. Getting open on the flash is crititcal, and then selling the hand off before turning the corner to drive. Paring this with another action where the ball is actually handed off will increase the effectiveness. Basketball Play - Blocker Mover Offense

Blocker Mover Offense

Matt Hackenberg 12/20/2021

The blocker-mover offense has always been interesting to me, and I learned a lot about the offense in crunching the film. Between the diagrams and embedded video, the different options are covered. I really like this offense as a way to feature your post players. Video below. Basketball Play - Horns: Push Gate Double Away Iso

Horns: Push Gate Double Away Iso

Matt Hackenberg 12/20/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a horns alignment. The dribble push enters the set and the ball is swung to the top of the key after the gate screen. The two gate screeners screen away, opening up a gap for the driver to attack. Video below. Basketball Play - Horns: Push Gate Series

Horns: Push Gate Series

Matt Hackenberg 12/22/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play series out of a horns alignment. The dribble push enters the set. The first two options are slipping the gate screen, and turning the corner on the dribble push for a clear out. The next option is using the gate screen, which goes into a pin or flare option, similar to a blocker/mover action. Video below. Basketball Play - Zone Set: Swing Flare

Zone Set: Swing Flare

Matt Hackenberg 12/22/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a zone offense set play. I like how the play stretches the defense side to side, and overloads the defense. This is a low risk set that can produce a three-point shot. Video below.
