Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors UCLA Rip

Golden State Warriors UCLA Rip

Adam Spinella 05/22/2017

Because Steve Kerr has the luxury of utilizing some of the best shooters in the world, he runs great actions like this one designed specifically for them. In UCLA Rip, he places two shooters on the same side and runs them in a three-man pattern with Draymond Green at the 4. The screening and attention paid to their shooters helps the backdoor pass from Green be effective -- which is why the two players not involved in the action must be lifted on the opposite side of the floor. A good wrinkle with a lot of action. The corner downscreen stretches the defense, and the downscreen for a shooter will occupy backside help. One of the best with this action (ballscreen & downscreen) is Williams College. They really drill this concept and then have certain reads to make out of the next pass. One of their favorite actions is to then have the person who set the ballscreen turn and flare in for the 1. See More

A middle 1/3 ballscreen play with a live dribble is incredibly diffucult for the defense to guard. An easy counter to this play would be to slip the 1st ballscreen. This look is something that Vanderbilt has ran against teams that hedge pick & rolls. See More
