Basketball Play - SLOB - Slice Screen Rescreen/Counter Play

SLOB - Slice Screen Rescreen/Counter Play

Basketball HQ 09/19/2012

As soon as the ball is inbounded you want to get right into the play. Your first look is for the cutter coming off of the re screen but don’t get so focused on him that you miss the big man who set the screen or the weak side screening action. The cutter needs to sell his slice cut to get his defender to drop into the paint. After the big man sets the rescreen he needs to open up to the ball and look to get a catch. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More

Basketball Play - SLOB - Slice with Ball Screen

SLOB - Slice with Ball Screen

Basketball HQ 09/19/2012

A good play doesn’t always score right out of the set but because it is run well it puts the defense out of position. This allows the offensive players to drive and kick and find open shooters or open big men. Be aggressive off of the ball screen and make a play for yourself or a teammate. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More

Basketball Play - BLOB - 4 High Play

BLOB - 4 High Play

Basketball HQ 10/05/2012

Cut hard and read the defense. Have your best passer inbound the basketball and don’t stare down the receiver. Even if you don’t get the basketball make sure that you cut hard and draw the defense. Inbound plays don’t have to be super complicated just cut hard and be ready to shoot if you are open. Don’t just look to get the ball in. Try to get a good shot off of the inbound play or get right into your offensive set. This play is from the 2005-2006 Duke season. See More

Basketball Play - Double Screen Low

Double Screen Low

Basketball HQ 10/06/2012

Shooter needs to set his man up and not be predictable on his cut. Come off the screen ready to shoot if you are open. Don’t make the shooter wait on the ball. If you can get the ball to your best player where the defender is at a disadvantage then you have done your job as a coach. On this play the defender is late to the ball because he had trouble with the double screen that let the shooter drive the ball past him to the basket. Create situations for your players to have an advantage over the defense. This play is from the 2005-2006 Duke season. See More

Basketball Play - Double Stack Low

Double Stack Low

Basketball HQ 10/08/2012

Out of the double stack you can run a lot of different plays so it helps to keep the defense honest. It is up to the shooter to determine what side is best for him to come out on for the shot. The shooter can also drive an over close out or shot fake and pull up. Set good screens and read the defense. If the big helps too much on the screen look inside at the post. This play is from the 2005-2006 Duke season. See More

Basketball Play - Elbow Double Stack with Loop Action

Elbow Double Stack with Loop Action

Basketball HQ 10/10/2012

Being a good scorer depends so much on reading the defense and being able to score within the offense. This play makes the defender decide whether he is going to chase over top of the screen or go under. If he goes under you stop and shoot the 3 if he chases over sweep and drive to the basket. Read the defender to see if he goes under or over on the screen. The other wing needs to clear out of there and space for a shot. This play is from the Duke 2005-2006 season. See More

Basketball Play - Duke Pin Down

Duke Pin Down

Basketball HQ 09/03/2014

Take the action away from the pin down screen by dribbling the basketball over to the opposite side and then bringing it back quickly to the pin down screen. This will allow for the shooter to get a better look without the defense being able to key in on them. This basketball play is all about misdirection. Pin down screener needs to set a good screen and shooter needs to set his man up. The shooter doesn’t have to catch and shoot the ball off the screen. He can shot fake or rip through and make a play for himself or a teammate. This play is from the 2005-2006 Duke season. See More

Basketball Play - Post Flash with Cross Screen

Post Flash with Cross Screen

Basketball HQ 09/03/2014

This play depends on timing and a good cross screen. If it is a smaller guard coming off of the cross screen they need to finish the layup quickly or shot fake because the help side is going to be coming for the block. This post flash cross screen basketball play is a great play to get a shot right at the basket. If you have missed a couple of long shots and are struggling to score this is a good play to run. If you are running the cross screen for a wing then they need to either finish quickly or shot fake and draw the foul. Big men will be able to take their time on the finish. This play is from the 2005-2006 Duke season. See More
