Favorite Send to FastDrawAnother new set the Cavaliers have ran in the Chicago Bulls series has been a set that Doc Rivers ran with Rajon Rondo in Boston and now with Chris Paul in Los Angeles. With Tyronn Lue being an assistant and a main cog in the Cavs system this year, he added this set for Kyrie to get on the move and receive a dribble handoff and attack. The set starts with a pass to the wing and cuts through towards the rim. As Kyrie cuts through the ball is reversed to the top of the key and Kyrie cuts off a double screen from 2 & 4 into a dribble handoff from 5. Kyrie looks to attack initially and if he is stopped, 5 steps up and sets a spread ballscreen for 1. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe first video clip is a simple side ball screen with a double screen on the weak side of the floor. The interesting thing about this action is the spacing UK uses on the weak side of the floor. The double screen is set just inside of the three-point line which is more commonly seen in NBA sets where defenses have to play tighter to their man due to everyone on the floor being able to make shots. Kentucky ends up getting a lay-up in the post out of this action as Wisconsin can’t over help with the double screen being right below the 3-point line. The second video clip is a ball screen set at the top of the key to an open side of the floor. If the guard can’t attack the open space he throws back to the popping 4 man who looks for his own shot. On his catch the 3 man that’s stacked up with the 5 man slams 5’s defender so 4 has a straight line pass to 5 sealing in the lane. The deep post catch forced Wisconsin to double down and left UK’s guard wide open for a 3-point shot. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawDoc Rivers loves to get Chris Paul & Blake Griffin in a Post Pick & Roll situation to put the defense in a tough situation. Out of this set, they ran a counter late against the San Antonio Spurs to get Chris Paul moving and attacking off a double screen. Instead of setting a flex screen and then sealing his man for a post up, Paul leaks out and receives a dribble handoff from Blake Griffin and attacks off a ballscreen from DeAndre Jordan. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawBrad Stevens took an underrated and a Boston Celtic team that had mid season trades and were expecting to head for an early draft pick to the playoffs. He is one of the best basketball minds in the NBA, and he runs a nice set for Isaiah Thomas with multiple options off of it. It starts with a dribble handoff to the trailing big and the point guard cuts off backscreen from the opposite big man at the elbow. The first option is for the point guard to "V" cut back off at the elbow and look for a shot opportunity. If there is not shot available, 5 will step up and set a ballscreen, because of the dribble handoff 4 is already spacing the floor, so the Spread Pick & Roll doesn't need to be setup. The next option is for 1 to continue off backscreen and set a flex screen for the wing man and then receive a down screen from 4. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawMilwaukee ran this variation of Pistol action against Chicago in Game 5 of the NBA Playoffs. This is the first time I have seen this variation of Pistol action, but with shooters like O.J. Mayo at the 2 and Ersan Ilyasova at the 4, there are numerous possibilities for counters available out of this set. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawBrad Stevens runs a nice set that starts with a Dribble Handoff into a backscreen with great options for a shot for the point guard, a ballscreen and then continuity into screen the screener action. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawAt the beginning of every game Kerr likes to run Klay off a pindown screen to get him going, and that is exactly what he ran in Game 2. Out of their "Zipper" Series, they run a fake dribble handoff for Steph and Klay sneaks out of a screen from Bogut to get an easy look. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawNew Orleans runs alot of Horns sets, and one of their favorite sets is to pass to the elbow and have the point guard and opposite Big set a double down screen for the wing player (usually Eric Gordon) to attack out of a dribble handoff. Against Golden State in Game 1 they ran that same action with a nice counter; instead of executing a dribble handoff with the guard on the wing, the big turns and dribbles at the ballside wing who then cuts backdoor. Favorite Send to FastDrawOne of the most lethal actions the Warriors run is having Steph & Klay twirl on the wing. Usually Steph cuts to set a down screen for Klay, looking for a quick shot, in this set they "Twirl" or Klay cuts off of the screen and curls back inside setting another quick screen for Steph. Out of this action, the first guard receives a dribble handoff and the other cuts through off a double screen, looking for a shot. Kerr also runs a counter out of this where instead of cutting off double screen Klay is involved in the double screen and "Leaks" or slips out early to get a shot. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawNew Orleans ran this against Golden State as a pressure release to the overplay of their wings. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is also a Celtics counter to Slice Roll. This time, instead of the 4 receiving a staggered rip screen, the 2 receives a stagger screen for a catch and shoot opportunity. See More
