Favorite Send to FastDrawUCLA ran a really nice Elevator set at the end of the first half in today's matchup with UAB. They get some action before the final screen, and allow a shooter to get open to hit a 3 after a timeout. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawUCLA Head Coach Steve Alford called his "use it or lose it" timeout just before half to set up this cross screen/elevator screen set. 2 is desired shooter (Bryce Alford) and set cross screen then sprints through elevator screen, See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawHere is another baseline corner option used by Virginia to get Joe Harris the ball in the corner. The Cavaliers do a great job of moving without the ball making the defense chase shooters. In this option, Harris gets the ball in the corner looking for a shot. If a shot isn't there, Harris plays a two-man game with his 4 man for a pick & roll or pick & pop play in the corner. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis Iowa Hawkeyes set is a twist on a set that most coaches either have in their playbook or have seen on the court before. The Hawkeyes used a back screen cross screen combo to get a wide open dunk on the opposite block. In their screen the screener action the initial screener is a shooter who will receive the second screen to get to the corner. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawWVU quick hitter used late in the 1st half against Buffalo. WVU was 3/9 from 3 in the first half and used this set to assert themselves in the paint. This quick hitter uses a guard cross followed by a dive and back screen. Buffalo eventually went to 2-3 zone in the first half to counter the offensive attack of the Mountaineers. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawWest Virginia continued to stretch their 1st half lead out with the BLOB set making a wide open 3 from the ball side wing. I have seen this play used by multiple teams with various wrinkles. In this set the 3 seals or opens up to the rim. In most cases, one of the bigs 4/5 will dive toward the rim after the initial double screen. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawGeorgia ran multiple plays out of this Flex set against Michigan State in the NCAA Tournament. This option is designed to bring a post player to the block off of a cross screen. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Kansas Jayhawks used this play to start the game against New Mexico State's zone defense. The play starts with the Jayhawks in an overload on the right side of the floor. Mason (1) passes to Seldon (3) away from the overload. Ellis (4) moves towards Seldon as if he is going to set a screen. Instead, Seldon passes back to Mason and Lucas (5) screens the middle man of the zone. Ellis curls around the screen and gets the pass from Mason for a lay-up. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawLSU used this play in the first half against NC State. On the sideline, LSU lines up with Hornsby in the corner (3). 1 passes the ball into 4 then 4 dribbles across the floor and passes back to 1. Hornsby then sets a cross-screen for 5. 4 sets a down screen for Hornsby who cuts up to the top of the key for a 3-point shot. It looks like LSU needs to keep finding Hornsby to stay in this game. Favorite Send to FastDrawStephen F. Austin ran this early offense almost exclusively in the first half of their Round 2 matchup with Utah. Utah switched all screens which caused issues for the Lumberjacks but they were still able to get quality shots. This early offense uses flex concepts to clear one side of the floor for a dribble handoff. Stephen F. Austin utilizes a 5 that can attack the rim off the dribble to allow for multiple options out of the set. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawOhio State ran this modified flex vs. VCU after setting it up with multiple possessions of their basic horns set. After using misdirection, the VCU defender is expecting a second misdirection screen but the 1 only uses one ball screen taking him to the wing. The help side defenders are also anticipating a guard attack or post dive to the paint. This action allows the ball handler and the cutter (flex) the entire side of the floor to work with. During this particular set the flex cut was covered and the ball was sent to the 2 coming off of a stagger screen. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawXavier scored on this play in the first half and came back to it on their first possession in the second half. Zone set play vs. 2-3. Best shooter is in the dead corner forcing X4 to closeout. On the pass from 1 to 2: 3 crosses lane and seals X3 4 post hard to occupy X5 5 sneaks behind zone for easy catch and score. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawEarly offense from the VCU Rams during 1st half action vs. Ohio State. VCU used the action successfully on 5+ occasions during the 1st half. This set has multiple options but was used by the Rams to occupy help side defenders during the ball screen action. Ohio State had issues defending this with VCU getting multiple paint touches and open 3's. Ohio State when zone partly as a result of this action. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawRobert Morris just won the NEC Championship and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Back on December 2, 2014 we made the short 50 minute drive to RMU to play at the Sewell Center. We ended up winning the game by a score of 89-81 after one of the most offensive efficient first halves of basketball i’ve ever seen as both teams shot over 62% from the field. The second half we went to more zone in attempt to slow them down, and it worked. One of their counters to our 2-3 zone defense was to screen in the top defenders of the zone allowing their guard to split the defense and get in the middle of the lane. See More
