Basketball Play - Las Vegas Aces - Circle Double Stack BLOB

Las Vegas Aces - Circle Double Stack BLOB

Aseem Rastogi 05/06/2019

The Aces use this BLOB to get an open layup or short jumper. Because Kayla McBride commands so much attention, the first option (Lindsay Allen or Kelsey Plum) is usually the one getting the majority of the looks. This is because the help defense is consumed with making sure McBride doesn't get a layup, and they often leave the 1 open under the basket. One of the two base offenses for the Aces is this simple baseline cross set. The spacing and the left side entry take advantage of the Aces' personnel, as their point guard (Kelsey Plum) and 5 (A'Ja Wilson) are both left handed. The set starts with both wings crossing under the rim off brush pindowns from 4 and 5, followed by a wing entry and an immediate post feed. There are several subsequent options that allow the Aces to get great looks at the basket. When you have a dynamic scorer like Kayla McBride, you MUST find a way to get them the ball where and when they want it. The Aces drink from this well quite often, as they try to get McBride coming off a double stagger on the baseline. She is so adept at using screens and is one of the most explosive players in the world - this quick hitter allows her to get the ball with a quick shot/drive decision and plenty of space to work with. Las Vegas Aces - Horns Flex

Las Vegas runs a beautiful Horns set which allows plenty of options for their dynamic scorers to get the ball where they want it the most. Early in the season, Vegas ran this and utilized the Flex action well. As teams started scouting, they went to the secondary action which is to reject the initial Flex screen from the cutting passer, and instead use the double stagger. Simple, but effective, this quick hitter is used to get an open high low catch in the post to score. If that is not open, the screener is then isolated against a defender closing fast, creating an immediate shot/drive decision. Basketball Play - Toronto Raptors - "Head Tap" BLOB

Toronto Raptors - "Head Tap" BLOB

Cooper Smither 04/10/2019

A staple of the Toronto Raptors' short-clock out of bounds playbook in 2018-19, "Head Tap" BLOB has been extremely effective for team that finished with the 2nd best record in the NBA. Nick Nurse has leveraged the cardinal rule of out of bounds defense - no layups on an inbounds pass - to the offense's advantage by stretching help defense from the rim to the 3-point line. See More

Toronto Raptors - "Chest" BLOB

Another addition to the Toronto Raptors' revampled out-of-bounds playbook - "Chest" BLOB - is a very simple set of actions. Quite possibly a read-and-react actions, this 4-flat set is a staple of Nick Nurse's playcalling when the Raptors are inbounding the ball under the basket in 2018-19 season. The new additions of Danny Green and Kawhi Leonard have particularly been effective in this set on quick catch-and-shoot looks. See More
