Basketball Play - Finland - Diamond 2

Finland - Diamond 2

Ryan Nguyen 09/18/2018

This is one of the many "Diamond" sets from Henrik Dettmann of the Finnish National Team. 2, a shooter, sets the back screen for 4. As x2 helps on the back screen, 5 dribbles out of the post into a handoff for 2. Because x2 bumps 4 on his cut, he is trailing behind 2 out of position to contest. See More

Basketball Play - Curl Shooting Drill

Curl Shooting Drill

Dymetrius Ware 09/15/2018

Game speed passing and shooting drill coming off curls. Make sure the shooters are coming off with hands and feet ready. Passers must make good direct passes to the shooter for a clean catch and shoot. However, consider this idea: Mix it up with one set of all bad passes to rep catching and shooting imperfect passes. Basketball Play - Olympiacos - STS Flare

Olympiacos - STS Flare

Kostas Kalogeropoulos 09/15/2018

A simple yet effective play that coach Giannis Sfairopoulos of Olympiacos run during the 2017-18 Euroleague season. The misdirection stagger screen and the screen-the-screener action force defenders to commit, so the flare screen set by the center at the end of the play is difficult to disrupt without switching a big onto the opponent's point guard. Basketball Play - Toledo Rockets - Horns Floppy: Spain SPNR Counter

Toledo Rockets - Horns Floppy: Spain SPNR Counter

Dave Nedbalek 08/26/2018

This is a counter from the base action I diagramed entitled, "Toledo Horns Floppy." This is a very simple yet effective counter you can run with this set. The vide below is not of this set itselft, but the base Horns Floppy action. As 2 comes off of 5's floppy screen, 4 will hit 2 and sprint straight into a side pick and roll. 2 will hunt the nail pulling the ball two bounces away from the screen looking to get in the paint with a scoring mindset first. As 4 rolls to the rim 5 will set a back screen on the defender in ball screen coverage. I worded that carefully to account for the likelihood of a switch. Screen the defender that is in ball screen coverage. After setting the back screen, 5 will pop to recover spacing/get outside of the 3pt line. This is a deadly action if you have a 5 who can step out and shoot it. 2's reads: 1) score 2) Lob/pass to 4 rolling 3) 5 popping It goes without saying that if the weak side defense hugs in, then 2 would kickout to 1, or 3 holding the side ready to shoot. Basketball Play - Go Gets: Shot, Go, Pass

Go Gets: Shot, Go, Pass

Michael Shaughnessy 08/21/2018

Here is a progression to my last post call "Go Gets". This drill adds in verbal or non-verbal communication forcing the players to be shot ready before catching the ball and have to react quickly within sustaining the correct habits. This also adds different actions working on passing and re-spacing on kick outs into different actions. It's a great way to have fun and challenge your players through just playing basketball (pass, move, drive, finish, shoot). Basketball Play - Russia - Misdirection STS BLOB

Russia - Misdirection STS BLOB

Diccon Lloyd-Smeath 08/10/2018

Misdirection BLOB from Russia Coach Sergey Bazarevich in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers. Plays starts with 4 screening 3 to open space to receive a safety pass. Instead of receiving the safety, 4 cuts hard towards the inbounder. 2 (shooter) fakes to set a back screen for 4 and creates the misdirection. 2 then curls off a back screen from 5 for an open jump shot. Basketball Play - Doornekamp Action STS BLOB

Doornekamp Action STS BLOB

Diccon Lloyd-Smeath 08/04/2018

Nice set using Basketball Immersion's "Doornekamp Action" - a term for fake lifting for the safety pass and then cutting basket cutting, as 4 does in this set. Use a shooter as the back screener and clear the lane by placing 5 in the ball side corner and lifting the wing out of the weak side corner. This set works for all ages and abilities, and should result in an open shot or a switch to attack. More from Diccon: The Evolution of Spain PNR in International Basketball See More

Basketball Play - Dribble Drive Motion: Chair Drill

Dribble Drive Motion: Chair Drill

Michael Lynch 07/04/2018

As part of #PlayerDevelopmentWeek I am putting together a series of drill progressions that we use in order to develop skills to fit our Dribble Drive Motion Offense. in this last installment we are focusing on "Shooting". On top of developing our players' ability to attack, finish & come to clean stops we want our players to be able to make the "Quick Pitch" pass vs helping defenses. We want all of our players who are not involved in the drive to the rim to have a "Catch to Shoot" mentality. We play heavy emphasis on players catching the basketball with the ability to rise up and shoot immediately. The "Chair Drill" presented below is a staple 2/0 Shooting Drill that is designed to shoot the three most common Drive & Kick opportunities that our players get. Players get 2-3 shots at each of the three locations, and then the same is repeated on the opposite end of the floor. This drill is one that could be easily tweaked and catered to fit your offense's most common shots as well.
