Basketball Play - Ball Screen Sets - Stack 52

Ball Screen Sets - Stack 52

Doug Brotherton 04/29/2017

"Stack 52" is a counter to the "Stack 25," which challenges a defense in a high pick and roll situation. Instead of rolling after the high ball screen, the 5 goes into a pin down for the 2. The point guard can look to turn the corner, or read the secondary action. This is another great option in a late clock situation. See More

Basketball Play - Ball Screen Sets - 1-up

Ball Screen Sets - 1-up

Doug Brotherton 04/29/2017

"1-Up" is a simply set, which is dependent on the ability of the PG to read the help defense. 5 sets a step up, high ball screen, and rolls back to the rim. 4 completes the roll/rise action, by rising behind the roller. 1 can turn the corner to attack, if help comes from the corner, then it is a drive and kick 3. The other read is the defender of the opposite post player. If X4 helps on the roll, then the 4 will be open on the rise. If X4 stays with the rise, then the roll should be open at the rim. This is a good late shot clock call, for those that play with a shot clock. See More

Basketball Play - St. Mary's Misdirection Double Ball Screen

St. Mary's Misdirection Double Ball Screen

Dana Beszczynski 03/21/2017

This is a really well tought out set as the ball is entered on the break to the wing and then a quick screen on the trailing post leads to an early SPNR action to the open side. Fitzner can step out to shoot or roll depending on the defense plays it. If the 1st action isn't open, the ball is reversed and the passer sprints-to-screen on the ball, again a Guard-Guard action forcing the defense into a decision. If the PG cannot turn the corner, the 4 steps out to re-screen back to the two man side or the PG can attack down the lane. This is one of my favorite St.Mary's sets from Coach Bennett. See More

Basketball Play - Arizona - Multiple Ball Screen Action

Arizona - Multiple Ball Screen Action

Dana Beszczynski 03/18/2017

The Arizona Wildcats really do a tremendous job of moving their players around in their half court sets. Here is a multiple ball screen action which given the Defensive positioning can lead to a backdoor cut or open up the direct drive to the ring. If the Defense sags in on the penetration, the Cats have their shooters spotting up behind the arc ready for a kick-out pass. See More

Basketball Play - Kent State - Ball Screen DHO Crush

Kent State - Ball Screen DHO Crush

Aseem Rastogi 03/18/2017

Kent State ran this set off a made free throw at 15:42 left in the second half down 7. Coach Senderoff called it from the bench to get their 7 footer, Adonis De La Rosa, a post iso. The action prior to the post entry consists of a rip screen option, followed by two ball screens and a dribble handoff, and finally a return pass to an easy post feed. De La Rosa ended up getting fouled on the play. See More
