Basketball Play - Princeton: DHO Back Flare

Princeton: DHO Back Flare

Matt Hackenberg 02/25/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for a flare screen. I like that this action clearly has an easy order of operations. After the hand off, read the back screen. If the back screen isn't there, check the flare screen. If the flare screen isn't there reverse the ball off the down screen. Basketball Play - Florida Gulf Coast Eagles WBB - Curl UCLA Rip

Florida Gulf Coast Eagles WBB - Curl UCLA Rip

Matt Wheeler 02/08/2022

The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles women's team is known for their five-out offense and three-point shooting but this is a great quick-hitting play that they run to get a lob for their 5. The play starts with the guards curling around the posts at the elbows followed by a UCLA cut by the point guard and they 5 popping out to receive the pass from 3. 5 then reverses to 4 to setup the decoy action of 2 cutting off a screen from 1. 3 then sets the backscreen for 5 on the weakside for the lob. The UCLA screen is set at the elbow and the ball is reversed to the screener popping back. The stagger screen is set up on the back side, as the screen receives continues through to use the stagger screen. Basketball Play - Corner STS Stagger

Corner STS Stagger

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a funky alignment. I like this set a lot. I don't exactly know why, and it seems like a lot of the other screen the screener actions I've seen but I like this one. The initial down screens should help the set run more fluidly against pressure defense. Slice Stagger STS (1-3-1)

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 1-3-1 alignment. Some preliminary action sets up the screen the screener. The slice screen at the elbow is the first read, and hopefully draws some help defense, before the shooter comes off the stagger for a three-point look. Basketball Play - Flat Back Dive BLOB

Flat Back Dive BLOB

Matt Hackenberg 01/18/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a BLOB play. I like that in this play the 2 players rising create more space to find openings for the back screen action. With less defenders in the equation, defensive slips can be magnified. If the rise players are not respected, there is an easy and safe inbound to them.
