About This Play/Drill

"Pearl" is a play that was taken from Bruce Pearl when he was the head coach at Tennessee.  This is a four-out pick-and-roll play that has the center step out and set a ball screen for the point guard based on how the defense is forcing the point guard.

  • Basketball Play - Pearl

Frame 1
If #1's defender forces to the middle, #5 will set the screen so that he can attack the middle. #4's man will space away to the help-side wing. After #1 clears the ball screen, #5 rolls to the basket.

#1 can attack the basket, pull up for a three-point shot if his man goes under the ball screen, hit #5 rolling to the basket or kick the ball out to any of the perimeter players if their man comes to help stop the drive.
