About This Play/Drill

Swing Down is an option upon the swing or centering pass to the center trailer in Early Offense.

On passes to the center trailer the offense executes "dual actions" in this case down screens. The ball movement and dual actions move players prior to the pentration moment (spread ball screen).

  • Five Lane Break - swing to trail 5. On a swing pass we want dual actions on airtime of the pass (see Frame 2)

  • 1 and 4 run at inside shoulder of corner defenders then replace corners

  • Player 5 may pass to either side

  • 5 elects to pass to 3

5 follows pass into ball screen for 3. Aim at the lower half (backpocket) of the on-ball defender. If the on-ball defender goes over the screen use the the running slip or pick-and-go and break the defense with a hard roll.

If the on-ball defender goes under, twist into a rescreen.

4 is on back action here if there is no twist
