"Cutters" is a set to run vs a Match-up Zone. It starts in a 1-3-1 alignment and we like to start with a dribble push to distort the zone and drag off the top part of the zone.
Blog Post: Keys to Attacking a Match-up Zone
1 dribble pushes 3 out who cuts underneath to opposite corner.
Once the ball gets to the wing area the FT line player pops out for a quick ball reversal while the ball side post goes to the opposite block.
If the 2 man doesn't have a shot or an immediate pass into the post to the 5 man sealing, she will pass it back to the point and the cutting action continuity continues.
The 2 will flash into the high post area around the FT line and the baseline player will fill the wing area vacated by the cutter. The 5 player looks to now get behind the zone in case the defense (X4) matches with the high post flasher.
On ball reversal to the wing the flasher continues cut to the strong side short corner or corner area. The 5 then flashes to open area mid post and looks to receive pass from guard.
On any pass to the corner we run a drag/fill. The guard that passed to the corner cuts behind the zone and waits for the corner player to use a drag dribble to distort the zone.
Once the guard begins to dribble up to the wing area, the cutting guard immediately replaces them in the corner.
If nothing develops, the guard passes back to the top of the key and the cutting action continues.
On any high post catch we teach the following reads:
1. Shot
2. High-Low
3. Skip Opposite for a 3pt shot.
