"Shocker" is a play to run vs a Match-up Zone. Initial setup is with a permanent low post player 5, a baseline runner 4, and three guards on the perimeter.
Blog Post: Keys to Attacking a Match-up Zone
Shocker starts with a pass to either wing.
On the pass to the wing, the permanent post moves to the weakside block and the baseline runner moves to the weakside corner. The passer immediately sets a screen on the ball and the ball handler looks to attack the middle of the zone or kick it out to player 3 on the wing.
On 3's catch the reads are:
1. Shot or Drive
2. One More pass to the corner
3. Hit the post man 5 sealing middle of the zone
Here you see the zone bumping to the corner and the 3 man passing directly to the 5 man sealing off the inside middle of the zone.
If nothing develops on the initial attack then the 4 man passes back out to the wing and runs the baseline. The ball side post clears to the weak side block.
The play continues to the other side of the floor as the top guard sets a ball screen and the 3 man looks to attack and kick to the 1 man who looks to shoot throw it inside, or kick it to the corner for a 3pt shot.
