Basketball Play - X

X

Lance Foreman 05/21/2013

This play is designed for an undersized team. Took this from a scout on a non-conference opponent that was in the NJCAA top 10 in the country in points per game this past season. Our opponent played a fast-paced game similar to Iona in the past years. See More

Basketball Play - Post Rub & Iso

Post Rub & Iso

Randy Brown 05/21/2013

This is a good play for isolating your best post scorer in the low post area. 3 catches from 1 and 1 clears to weak side. On the catch, 4 rubs off 5's screen and cut to high post. This presents two options: 5 seals after screening for 4 OR ball is reversed to high post and 4 hits 5 on a post seal. 1 and 2 occupy defenders on the weak side. Give it a try! See More

Basketball Play - Post Button Hook

Post Button Hook

Randy Brown 05/20/2013

This is a high low play that starts out with a dribble out to the left wing by 1. 5 back screens for 2 as 4 gets open at the top of the key. On the catch, 4 looks quickly to 5 stepping into the lane. Immediately 4 reverses back to 1 and 5 button hooks back to the left block to catch and score. Give it a try! See More

Basketball Play - Double Cut Special

Double Cut Special

Randy Brown 05/19/2013

On ball entry, 1 cuts to the lane to screen for 3. 3 uses screen to score possible catch in lane then continues to right short corner. 4 pops out to catch ball reversal from 2. Screen the screener action as 5 screens for 1. On 1's catch, 5 steps out of the lane to screen for 3 who cuts into the paint to catch and score. Give it a try! See More

Basketball Play - Triple - Flare - Cross

Triple - Flare - Cross

Randy Brown 05/19/2013

This is a two option play for a shooter and a posting 3. Starts in triple stack and dribble out to right wing by 1. Ball reversal to 5 signals a 4-2 flare screen. On the catch by 2, if no shot or bounce possible, 4 screens across for 3 to catch and score or post up and score. Give it a try! See More

Basketball Play - Mavericks Dirk Iso

Mavericks Dirk Iso

Jacob Collins 05/19/2013

This is the last counter in a series that the Dallas Mavericks used against the Miami Heat in their title run in 2011. Rick Carlisle does an excellent job of recognizing the strengths of the players that he has on the floor and taking advantage of those strengths. In this play sequence Jason Kidd is the (1), JET Jason Terry is the (2), Shawn Marion is the (3), Dirk is the (4), and Tyson Chandler is the (5). This set is a great example of getting your best scorers. Dirk (4) and Jason Terry (2) in position to do some damage. See More

Basketball Play - NBA Play of the Day May 17: New York Knicks 15 Power

NBA Play of the Day May 17: New York Knicks 15 Power

Kyle Gilreath 05/17/2013

In an attempt to get Amar'e Stoudamire going during his limited minutes, Mike Woodson had the New York Knicks ran this post-up action several times last night in their win over the Indiana Pacers in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. Spreading the floor our the way the Knicks did made this action difficult to run and would be an excellent option if you have a dominant post player on your team. By using Jason Kidd to set the screen on Stoudemire, you make the defense make a decision to switch or help and recover. In my opinion, switching is not even an option. By helping and recovering, the defense arrives late and allows the post player to catch and make a move towards the rim quicker. See More

Basketball Play - Green Bay

Green Bay

John Leonzo 05/16/2013

Here is another play that is run frequently by Greg McDermott at Creighton. This set play is unique because it is run from a 2-3 high set with 1 and 2 at top so that 2 can eventually receive the stagger screen later in the play (this can be done out of a 4-out 1-in set by having the trailing big exchange with the weak side guard). This is a great way for you to get your team opportunities for easy 2's or a 3 pointer from the top of the key. See More

Basketball Play - Duck and Pop

Duck and Pop

Randy Brown 05/15/2013

Cutting action sets up a curl and pop option for 3 and 5 respectively. 1 and 3 cut initially to set up ball reversal. On reversal from 2-4-1, 3 curls using 5's screen, followed by a screen down by 2 to free 5. This play is perfect for a scoring 3 man and a 5 that can shoot the perimeter jump shot. Both options will be present. Give it a try! See More

Basketball Play - High Dive Special

High Dive Special

Randy Brown 05/15/2013

This play can yield a lay up or post up by 3 or a three point shot by 4. Starts with a double flare for 1 who catches on the left wing. On the catch, 4 screens for 3 diving to the basket. If 4's defender helps a little on 3's cut, 4 steps out behind the line to shoot a three. False action between 2 and 5 on the right wing will occupy the weak side defenders. Give it a try! See More

Basketball Play - Shuffle Slip

Shuffle Slip

John Leonzo 05/14/2013

Here is a set that was run often by the Wichita State Shockers throughout the past season. This quick hitter gives you the option of 1 attacking off the ball screen, 4 cutting to the basket, 3 for a jumper, or 5 posting up on the block. This play is effective for getting a post up because of the misdirection that takes place off the ball screen. As 1 attacks off the ball screen and 4 cuts hard of the back screen from 5, the defense will anticipate the play coming to the strong side. As 3 pops and 5 slips to post up, the ball can be thrown back to 3 and 5 can effectively post up for a quality look at the basket. See More
