Boston Celtics Slice Twist
04/16/2015This is also a Celtics counter to Slice Roll. This time, instead of the 4 receiving a staggered rip screen, the 2 receives a stagger screen for a catch and shoot opportunity. See More

Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a counter to the Boston Celtics Slice Roll for teams that deny the reversal pass to 3. Instead of swinging the ball to Pierce, the 4 man, likely KG, goes back into a DHO with 1, and then receives a staggered rip screen from 5 and 2. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis Slice option for the Celtics was a quick hitter that could be run at any time in early offense and didn’t need to be a called set. It is a quick reversal to the 3, into a Side P/R. With Pierce at the 3, there are a number of threats here that are difficult to guard. When KG is at the 4, the Pick and Pop is difficult to guard. If x2 pulls in to defend against the duck-in from 5, Ray Allen is sitting in the corner waiting to strike. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a great counter to Slice Double with KG at the 5. The setup is the same, but instead of Allen coming off of the stagger, he sets a cross screen for KG and then receives a pin down from 4. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawWith Ray Allen at the 2, new Slice options are introduced to provide him with catch and shoot opportunities. In Slice Double, the initial action is the same, but it is a setup to get Allen’s defender on the high side in the post, at which time he reverses back off a stagger screen from 4 and 5 with his defender trailing. Favorite Send to FastDrawRajon Rondo’s size often led to mismatches, and this Slice variation used by the Celtics allowed him to call his own number and get a good post up opportunity on the block. The setup looks exactly like regular Slice, but the 2 man rejects the flex screen, allowing Rondo to slip around the 5 and seal his defender. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is the basic Slice set, and it is a simple way to bring your 2 or 3 to the block for a post up to exploit a mismatch. Paul Pierce was the primary option in the post out of Slice for the Celtics. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawSimilar to a set play we saw from SMU in the round of 64, North Carolina ran this look against Wisconsin in the Sweet 16. The first look is for the 5 man over the top for a lob. If the lob isn't there, 5 seals for a post up. A weakside stagger occupies any help for the post defender. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawAnother excellent play from the Wichita State playbook, this coming late in the 2nd half against Notre Dame. It's a double high ballscreen, with 5 setting first and a shooting 3 setting the second screen. In defending this play, because x3 stays attached to his man, x5 has to stop penetration and x2 has to pull in to bump 5 on the roll. This leaves the 2 open in the corner for a throwback 3, which was no problem for a talented PG like VanVleet to find. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawWichita State ran this set around the 10:00 mark of the first half in their NCAA matchup against Notre Dame, resulting in a 3pt basket. This play features multiple scoring options, with a backscreen lob option for 1, a ballscreen for the 2, and a stagger screen for the 3, not to mention opportunities for the bigs to slip on any screen. Favorite Send to FastDrawMichigan State ran this play early against Virginia in the NCAA round of 32. MSU runs this Forwards Out look, which is very similar to NBA Chin action but with the guards and forwards inverted, and can run many different options out of it. The Wide option is designed to put x5 in multiple help situations, and here x5 overhelped on the wide pin down, resulting in a slip to the basket for an easy dunk. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawMichigan State ran this side out of bounds play in their NCAA opener against Georgia. The Spartans used this action to get an open 3pt look for the 1, and the flare screen for the 2 is an excellent option, as well. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawMichigan State used this set twice in the first half against Georgia, and Travis Trice was able to knock down an open 3. This is just one out of any number of options that can be run out of a Forwards Out set. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawHere are 2 options from a set that Tom Izzo has been running for years. They used this set successfully several times against Georgia in their NCAA matchup. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawGeorgia ran this action out of a Forwards Out set against the Spartans in the round of 64. There is a lot of good action here, but it is ultimately designed to set up a quick spread pick and roll that can de extremely difficult to guard with multiple shooters on the floor. See More
